Well after 2 1/2 years, I finally have a small crop of Hasya.

This is the first picked fruit.

Congrats! I had my first tikal sapodilla from my tree a couple of weeks back. It fell off the tree ripe and it was awesome. Extremely sweet, no grain with mamey/raisin/slightly woody flavor.

Wow, jumbo size.  How did you decide to pick it?

My guess cause it was ready  ;)

Ok, seriously. ..first sign is the spine that is at the bottom of all developing sapodilla will fall off on its own.  You can then do the scratch test.  By scratching the outer skin, you want to see a light yellow green to yellow/beige coloration (not a green or vibrant green color).  At that time, it can be picked.  To know if you picked it at optimal or peak stage, there will be no latex  leading from the stem on the fruit.  Do not wait for it to get soft on the tree as birds, insects or rodents may beat you to its enjoyment.

That looks great!

Anyone in California have any Sapodillas that are fruiting well here?
