"Amor mio" Guava
« on: March 05, 2014, 06:55:44 PM »
I wonder in anyone has tried this cultivar. I was given 5-6 fruits and found them delicious. Fruit ranging in size from 8-13oz
Just like a pear texture and size, with guava taste. Not a lot of seeds and seed cavity small. I took a picture of the fruit with the seed cavity empty. (I ate the cavity, a lot of flesh there) No worms, the fruit is bagged, well worth it to bag. Commercially grown in Dade County Florida.

The grower of these makes mermelada de Guayava for family and friends. He gave me 1/2 gal meson jar. It is to die for. If you pick up the ON tomorrow you can try it.

Those guavas sure look good! I bet they taste even better than they look. By the way, is the tropical pink guava an actual cultivar or does it refer to any pink fleshed guava? What is the difference between it and a HK Pink or Ruby Supreme. I haven't been able to find much info on the 'Tropical pink' itself.

Don't waste your time with la  Verne's  topical pink it a horrible selection I have no idea were they dug this one up. It's a heavy producer and good for juicing but it taste like mush and super seedy barely edible.

HK Pink is a huge guava with decent tasting guava but I use it to make guava shells because of its thick skin.
Ruby Supreme is a good tasting red and I guess if you want a dessert guava this is the one you should purchase
