growing in half oak wine barrel

Has anyone try to grow in an oak wine barrel cut in half?  Do you think root bound won't be a problem with this type of container?

I have over 30-  1/2 wine barrels in both synthetic materials and wood in which I grow citrus, avocado's, dwarf peaches, nectarines and blueberries in my yard.

for the wood barrel, do you see any sign of root bound?

No but none of my trees are over 7 feet right now.

Containers is and can be the way to go. I’m in the subtropics and I also do containers. Only plant natives in soil.
A half wine barrel is like perfect. I think 30 gallons give or take. Keeps the trees just right. Don’t worry about rootbound.
Plenty room. Got to put drain holes on bottom.
Most times it’s all about experimenting. Do this, do that. You eventually get a surprise.
Got a Macadamian nut tree in a 15 gallon. 9 years. No nuts yet. Going to work her into a half wine barrel later this month.
Put her out in the field in full sun. She’s only 40 inches tall from top of soil. Maybe that xtra room will get her going with some flowers and just enough expansion to handle the bounty. Probably a few more years wait though.

The barrel will eventually fall apart. I had one with a rose bush and then a clematis vine in it for about 12 years until it started to fall apart, and when I went to move it with a dolly cart, the bottom fell out and a covey of copperhead snakes came rolling out of it.

What do you use for a permanent container?
