I hope so too!  It really is my dream tree. I have wanted one since we first learned about it. Very lucky Adam had one for sale.

Adam, the tree is located where I can keep a close eye on it. I won't let it dry out again. Will those buds bloom or just keep getting bigger? Since I've never seen it before I don't know what to expect.

Val, that looks like the all American type green sapote.  ;) It's one of those trees that makes a lot more flowers than fruits. But eventually you will get plenty fruit!

Val,

the flowers don't get much bigger, but the petals seem to pop out further..and they smell like caramel candy!

I bet....you could spray them with gibberellic acid, and get some fruit to set!

Yes that sapote is politically incorrect lol. I would  be happy with a few fruits. I am just glad it's headed in the right direction. Potted plants make me nervous as I want born with a green thumb.

Wow.....really nice looking tree.  Despite my numerous attempts, I have never gotten a green sapote to this stage, where it was actually flowering (after probably 5 or six attempts from seed and 2 attempts after grafting onto different root stocks..  Nice work.  Green sapote is a really nice fruit, better than mamey in my opinion.

Harry, have you tried directly planting Green Sapote seeds into the ground and then grafting onto it after the seedling was established? I feel that planting seeds into pots and then grafting onto the potted seedlings will not work as well as direct seeding into the ground at its permanent location because the tap root is then undisturbed in the direct seeded plants.

Adam gets the credit. I'm just the lucky owner who can't wait to try the fruit. I wish you luck on your next attempt.

UPDATE:

I got my nursery stock tested for nematodes today.  If the test results come back negative for quarantined organisms, I will be able to start shipping some really nice plants to CA (and all 50 states, but AZ has to get a phyto i believe).

The test results take about 30 days or less to come back...please say a prayer for me!
does this mean you'll be able to ship the larger size plants (3-5gal size)? Keep me updated on the price for shipping to AZ whenever you're able to.

thanks!

Rob,

not yet! but I should be able to get them later...

my friend has some trees fruiting, they're a bit different than the ones that PIN was selling (his has more lanceolate leaves, PIN's had roundish leaves)...they are tart, but not as tart as the ones I've tasted at F & S and PIN.

I actually ate a few out of hand!

how does echo sweet compare with the common FL acerola?

seems like my echo sweet makes a slightly larger fruit, but this could be due to other factors.

flavor is almost identical to the other types we can find commonly in FL (at least to me)

Just wanted to say thank you, Adam, for the tour so I got to see your nice plants and even pick some fruits to taste, for the bonus plants you were so kind to give me, for all your advice and tips on grafting (and I forgot about loquat scions). We even brought some of your big mosquitoes home, haha, thanks to my husband. BTW, Jabos are delicious. Replanted all my new "babies" and gave them a nice place in a greenhouse. It was nice to meet you.  ;)
