They are hybrids & most hybrids come true from seed.

Bloodlimes are gone until next year.

I transplanted the Blood Clementines seedlings that germinated from seed I received from Laaz.  They were taken from the germinating tray yesterday and transplanted into 2 inch square air root pruning containers manufactured by Root Maker Corporation.  I agree with Laaz that the Blood Clementine produces true from seed. Some of the seed produced a single plant,  some produced two seedlings from one seed, and one seed produced 4 seedlings. These would be nucellar seedlings originating from the nucleolus, therefore they will be identical to the mother tree.   All the above seeds germinated from seed that I peeled off the outer seed coat (testa).   I also planted some Blood Clementine seeds that I did not remove the outer hard seed coat, these took 8 days longer to begin germinating.

Millet, could you post a picture, please? My seeds germinated too and I wonder when I should repot them.

When I asked Laaz for some Blood Clementine seeds, he sent me a fruit.  From the one fruit that I received, I eventually got 35 trees from the fruit's seeds because of polyembryony.

Millet, are the single plants identical to the mother tree?

I bought seeds from Laaz too.  I did not remove the outer seed covering before planting them in soil.  It was interesting to me that the variegated sour oranges germinated first, then the blood clementines, and now the blood limes are coming up.  None of the fast trifoliate have germinated yet. I planted some Moros about the same time and they are germinating now too.     Only 2 seeds so far came up as doubles.  The variegated sour orange so far have no clorophyll at all.  I hope they survive.  It is fun to watch them.

Vald, to answer your question, I don't know if the single plants will be the same as the mother.  You just have to let them grow out with the polyembryony seedlings and watch for any growth changes.  It is known that clementines do not produce true from seed, and it is one half of the Red Clementine's parenthood.

All of my trifoliates from Laaz sprouted first. The variegated are sprouting too and the first one is showing the first pair of real leaves and they have variegation on them. They look strong and growing up nicely. I am sure they will survive.

Vlad one more point.  The Red Clementine seeds that sprouted just one tree could also be true to type.  Seeds from many citrus varieties produce just one seedling that are true to the mother tree.

The variegated sour orange is a strange plant. Most of the seeds I have planted come up green & then produce variegated bud sports up & down the tree. The mother tree is about 20 ft tall & mixed with green & variegated branches. The weird thing is, even the green branches produce variegated fruit...

That will be interesting to see Laaz.  Of the 5 seedlings that have sprouted only one so far is slightly green; the others are just creamy white, even the first true leaves are creamy white .  I have read about plants with green leaves producing variegated fruit.  It must be a surprise to see the variegated fruit on a green tree or branch.

I try and remember to get a photo when my neighbor is home. I gave the tree to him as a seedling... Don't have room in my yard for a fruit I would never use... ;D

Laaz, did you have a chance to take a photo?
Here is a pic of the variegated seedlings. The one in front has three coming up from one seed.

Millet, are you going to separate them later?

Galka, I've already separated them.  I separated them and transplanted them into there own pots early on, when the first true leaf started.  They separate quite easy.  I had two transplanted trees grow yet another late nucellar seedling a week or so after I originally separated and repotted them. All in all got 35 seedling trees from one Red Clementine fruit. I dunked the germinating container into a water bath and the medium washed away leaving the seedlings with clean roots, then I separated them, and replanted them in there own containers.  You will find it quite easy.

Laaz, that's impressive tree! The oranges are so colorful. I am hunting another Minneola that has different variegation on its leaves. They are darker, green and yellow and new leaves are much brighter than old ones.

Very nice Laaz.  Thanks for posting.

Millet, I looked to see if I could divide my mutiples, but they are still within the seed and are actually still fused together and don't have enough roots to Iive on their own.  I had expected each to have its own root, but not yet.  I don't remember seeing the two seedlings fused together like that before, but maybe that is because I waited longer to try to separate them.
