What are these bugs and are they bad?
« on: August 25, 2014, 08:47:29 PM »

Any idea what these guys are? They are on most of my Beauty Berry trees. Not that I care a bunch, they are beauty berries, are they a danger to my more serious fruit trees?

Tough to see clearly but they look like assassin bugs to me. Try a Google image search of "assassin bug" to see examples.

Agree with Adam, leaf footed stink bug nymph.
The assassin nymph doesn't have the white markings. I have also never seen the assassin nymphs in groups, but I have seen way more stinkbug nymphs than assassin nymphs so don't take that as proof.

Yup, Leaf footed stink bugs. Right now they are swarming on my beauty berry bushes all around the yard. Since its far easier to spray them when they are on an non-important plant before they jump to my citrus trees, Ill have to figure out a spray that will actually kill them.

I've noticed this morning peak population of these bugs on my fruiting Black Star surinam cherry tree is 9B. They've been puncturing and disfiguring/ scarring the fruit. I've also noticed scarring on my red jaboticaba fruits.
