Hmmm... true. Maybe it is a naturally occurring hybrid between a cotrg and another eugenia? Maybe just an interesting cotrg showing genetic diversity. Do you know if it was grown from seed?
My finger lime is an in ground tree, growing in full sun. I also get randome twig die-off, nothing severe. The tree is seven foot tall and healthy, I think it’s just the nature of the finger lime. I just remove any dead wood.
That reminds me of cicada damage. They cut a slit into the bark to lay eggs, the resulting scar looks just like that. I’ve seen them this year here, the species I have here makes a clicking noise.
This particular cutting has been in the ground for over a year... it’s finally putting out a branch. Sometimes you just have to be patient, eventually it’ll grow. I’ve forgotten what variety it is.
I left my little seedling outside over the winter without major problems. Though it is looking chlorotic... watering with rain water and distilled water.
Yup... definitely Casimiroa edulis. The seeds sprout easily, and you can graft the mother tree scion to the seedling and have a clone of whatever variety the mother tree is.
I believe it’s been about two years from seed. It should grow faster this season now that it has some size to it. Check out this thread over at the Growing Fruit forum... https://growingfruit.org/t/kei-apple/4908
Mine didn’t fruit the first year it flowered... 2nd year I got only a couple of fruits. This year it is loaded with flowers, and I’m expecting a much larger crop.
I have one that I grew from seed in a three gallon pot... my plan is to graft on a male branch if it turns out to be female, or vice-versa if male. Keeping the majority of it female as it grows. I did this on a carob tree and it worked out great.
You’ve got a lot going on in this photo, a lot of different foliage. But i’ll try to take a stab at it. If you mean the tree coming up in the center, it looks like a volunteer mulberry seedling. I’ve had them pop up every once and a while in my yard.
