At least for me and one other member. My last email notification was in December 2016. Thanks. Please fix it.
-
Emailed both admins about not only this but have not been getting notifications of new thread responses in my email account. No response.
Yeah, admins please fix.
Thanks!
-
Me too, recently registered and never received an email notification. The welcoming new forum member email wasn't sent too.
Admin please fix!
-
Did you make sure it didn't end up in your junk email folder?
-
Same thing here ....no email notifications on PMs .
-
Same here.
-
Ditto. No notify for item subscriptions or PMs.
Can we fire the admin?
-
Same thing no notification of private mail since more than a year ago...

Bribing him with a box of LZ might work better!

Sure no. Inbox/Spam/Junk folder, none of them contained any of forum emails.

I've looked into this, and it looks like GoDaddy is blocking outbound email (by blocking outbound network traffic destined for common SMTP ports). When I called GoDaddy support to get it fixed, the support rep with whom I spoke claimed that they were not blocking outgoing mail. But based on my testing via SSH, the rep is either lying or just plain dumb -- the outbound traffic is obviously being blocked.
I need to call GoDaddy support again and try to get a better support rep. I'll see if I can do that tomorrow. Stay tuned...

Telephone Reps are highly variable and thanks for trying to get this corrected.... If I don't log on for a few days I still want to know via email if I have gotten PMs. So I can log on and reply in a timely manner.

This is needed/important for selling/buying/urgent stuff, especially for members that are usually in their gardens/farms.

I finally got through GoDaddy's port blocking, and I can get email to my work address. However, gmail is still dumping messages, most likely due to bad SPF setup. I'm still futzing with the SPF setup. Hoping to get gmail working by tomorrow.

Gmail is working now. Email should be fully functional at this point.

Working for me now, thanks Jeff!!

Jeff, you're the best! Thanks!

Thanks Jeff, got my first notification today.
I thought you had dropped out, Rob too. We all need to set our priorities as we get older I guess. After 10 years and with a heavy heart I closed our choose-n-cut Xmas tree biz for good. Met a lot of nice people along the way and brought joy to a lot of little elves.
Merry Christmas!

Gonna necro this thread to avoid creating a new one (I didn’t see any more recent threads in my searches).
It’s been a long time since I’ve gotten an email for the various pm’s I receive. That’s troublesome, ‘cause on the occasions where my forum activity dies down (like now, I haven’t been posting much lately), I rely on emails to let me know I should log in to check my messages.
Does anyone else have this problem?

I’ve been having the same problem for a couple weeks, at least.
-
Same here, looks like notifications aren't working for me either.
-
Thanks for bringing this up, I’ve had this problem for a while now and thought it was just my email, but looks like it’s a wider spanning issue.

Yeah, this has complicated some things. Might not hear back from some folks in days (likely due to them not getting a notification that they have a PM), and by the time they respond back days or week later, the item they wanted has already sold.
Likewise, when trying to buy something, the seller may not respond for awhile--same reason.
-
;yes thanks alot for helping out with the messages notification, another important issue is the group not showing up when googling it, that means no new members, even members when typing the group not shows 🤔
-
Me too. Haven't been getting emails saying I have a PM waiting. I'd guess it's been that way for a month now?
Many thanks for addressing this! I really enjoy using the forum, and I'm learning a lot from it.
-
Just gotta report that I again didn't get an email notification for a private message I received almost 24 hours ago. Not sure if there are issues again or not, but I thought I should report it just in case.
-
It looks like this problem has popped up again. I received a PM but no email notification. I checked my message settings, which are set to always receive an email notification. I also checked my email's spam folder in case it ended up there, but it did not. This is not the most important problem in the world, but it is a bit annoying because the Forum was finally running perfectly again.
-
I can confirm that the problem is back. I received more than one PM here, without any email notifications.
-
I had the same problem.
Due to lot's of work I haven't been looking at the forum for a while, and today, I noticed I had a bunch of PMs to answer, but received 0 email alerts for those.

The link "Show new replies to your posts" in the top left region of every page is helpful.

I'm not sure how that's related to the topic.

Got my first PM in a long time today, but got no email about it. I saw in the Help that if we're running version 2.0 in "Change Settings" there's an option to "Notify by email every time you receive a personal message". I found it and changed that option from "Always" to "Never" and then back again. Hopefully that will trick the setting into working correctly. We'll see.

Hmm, I stopped receiving all emails again. I'll try that trick and see if it works.

There's no "tricking" the forum software, it's going to perform the same way unless/until there's an upgrade or host change. What changes is how your ISP, mail client, etc., view email coming from this forum.
Looking at the DNS records, here's my guess on what happened recently. The forum was moved to a new IP last Saturday (Dec 4th):
https://viewdns.info/iphistory/?domain=tropicalfruitforum.com
That new IP is shared by 150 other websites:
https://viewdns.info/reverseip/?host=192.252.156.17&t=1
All those sites (most likely) share the same mail server and definitely are subject to the same content classification/filtering many ISPs and 3rd party sites do these days. Sites sharing the same mail server can be sending out spam and/or unwanted mass emails and the mail server IP goes on black/block lists, everybody suffers. If some site on the IP has mature content or other filtered content, all sites can also be dinged. ISPs (Comcast has particularly sucked in the past) can have internal blocklists that you don't even know your site is on. Getting off those lists is a constant battle.
The solution is to be on your own IP and using your own mailserver. That solves these problems and comes with additional benefits, but it's also a few magnitudes more expensive. Not cost-prohibitive in today's environment, but more members would need to contribute during the yearly fund drive.

Thanks for looking into this and for the explanation, JakeFruit!
-
Thank you for that info. I'll keep a lookout for when you open up the donation drive.

;D
Well, I'm just a user here who likes tech and fruit trees.
-
Has the problem continued for everyone else? I still don’t get any emails from this forum, and I check my junk/spam folder every time I check my inbox.
-
It's never worked after the migration or whatever. I've just dealt with it.

That's unfortunate. I hope it can be fixed

I did not see the forum in the spam list.
Also from what I’ve read about the forum software, it could be the box to select mail server(built in PHP or your own server) isn’t checked after the upgrade, or that the providers (GoDaddy?) Mail server couldn’t be reached.
I don’t really care much about mail here, but I understand some people especially vendors will find this feature helpful.

It's most important for password recovery, which also isn't working. I'm on my second account now, and I stupidly once again have no idea what my password is, so if I get logged out somehow, I'll have to create a third account.
