Citrus General Discussion / Re: The Citrus Family Tree
« on: May 08, 2019, 09:30:32 AM »
To be more serious, this is only about cultivated citrus!.
The cultivated germplasms are very small part of the genetic resource compared to wild citrus.
This theory of four parents can only explain cultivated citrus not wild citrus.

We must be very cautious about all those 'trees'. No use to speak of Tanaka and swingle classifications...  ;)
The modern genetic classifications are breaking everything we were believing in. An example is the papeda family which was centered on Ichang papeda and has been proved completely wrong!

There are several "Bizzarria" in Italy. They are all based on bitter orange but one based on lemon , this one is rare.

Here it is:

Leave 8.7 cm, middle leaflet 6.3 cm, petiole 2.4 cm, lateral leaflets 2.6 cm and 4 cm.

I said "first and last picture." that is #1 and #12.
#4 is ok too but not #5.

Mine looks like the first and last picture. It comes from Horst.
The folioles are very thin.

And this is a drawing of the original plant:

We can see that the one with thin leaflet is the right one. The other could be a hybrid.

This is not a citron because the leave is articulated and it cannot be a citron-lemon hybrid because the petiole is winged.

If you still have the missing pictures I can put them back. You just send me the pictures and the exact place where I must put them.
Obviously, it's valid for everyone!

Dogjamboree, the three first photos don't show spider mites attack but the last one could (or has).

Bad choice of budwood.
These budwoods are forks, that means the main buds have sproot and have later been cut. (not sure of my english  ;) )
Your only hope is now the lateral buds, one on each side of the (cutted) main buds.
It can take a very long time for them to sprout...

Citrus General Discussion / Re: What is the BEST Lemon Variety?
« on: April 03, 2019, 06:24:42 AM »
What is wrong with key lime? I find the taste better than bearss, and they grow bigger, at least the Thai variety. almost like a tennis ball.
I presume you mean Kaffir lime (combava or citrus hystrix). Citrus hystrix has no relation with key lime.
Unless you speak of an unknown (for me) variety of key lime with big fruits.

> Ok so how many degrees difference are we talking about between temperature at 5cm and 1m high?
about 3°C (~6°F) but in a very flat place or a bottom of valley it can be more.
You see, it cannot be neglected.

Thank you Radoslav and kumin. I was looking for latex paint but in France it refers only to true latex.
As you made me understand that latex also means acrylic it has been very easy to find.  :)

I tried to root about 100 cuttings of Prague chimera, from a mature tree.
It took a long time but one by one they all eventually died.
And now I read « ... cuttings collected from mature trees in all months ... failed to form callus and root. »!

It has been discussed on the old forum ( http://citrusgrowersstatic.chez.com), using latex paint, it is said to work well.
I wanted to try but didn't find any latex paint in France!
What is traditionally used  is chalk paint but we cannot use it for citrus because it increases the pH of the soil.
