« on: October 02, 2014, 04:10:12 PM »
Hi everyone! I was in a friend's house and she show me a big sweet lemon tree. I never see it, so i want to hask if you guys know it. It's a variety or a new species? The flavour is like a sweet lemonade, very juicy and the smell is strange. A must to have! Thank's!  :)

There are two Sweet Lemons that I am aware of, perhaps more.  I used to have a sweet lemon tree, but have forgot what variety I had.  One Sweet Lemon variety is called Dorshapo.  It originated in Bahia, Brazil and first came to the USA in 1914. This Sweet Lemon variety is known in Portuguese as the "Lima Doce".  Careful study has found the Dorshapo to be a true lemon (acidless).  Millsweet Lemon (perhaps the variety I once had), was introduced into the USA by the Catholic padres from Mexico during the old California missions period. - Millet

hi Louis

was it the lemonade tree?

http://www.daleysfruit.com.au/buy/lemonade-tree.htm
No it's not this one. The size it's like a medium orange and the colour of skin is greenish pale-yellow like a lemon. The only difference i saw between this and a usual lisbon lemon is this sweet lemon a bit more round but not too much. It has a nipple in the two sides. I'd love to know what it is...  :)

Meyers seams to be very round and yellow... this one it's not so round and not so yellow, more greenish yellow.  ??? Thank's!

They only get that like that when they are ethylene gas rippened for commercial sale. When they are tree rippened they are just yellowish-green

Well, I remember one lemon which the name is "Limão Coração Bahia". It resembles the "Dekopon" in shape and the "Champagne Orange" in flavor, being the flesh very clear and with a lot of juice. I have a small grafted tree, and her flowers has a long life (the pic attached is from 20/09/14, and the flowers are still there!). See the pic attached. The fruits also posted, aren´t from my tree, but from the seller´s tree. The tree cost me R$ 110,00, something around U$ 40,00. ;)

...and then there's something we have (and I bought) called a Sweet Lime.  I love limes
and thought this would be a good addition, but the sweet part had more an off-flavour
so I yanked it out....too bad.....
