Anybody knows of Myrcianthes fragrans - or even grows it?
« on: June 01, 2012, 09:41:36 AM »
I can see Myrcianthes fragrans has a natural range that extends into the southern USA; on the photos I have seen the foliage and bark looks beautiful, and the fruits are edible. Anyone with firsthand (or secondhand) knowledge about this rare species?

Found some info on; http://www.plantcreations.com/stoppers.htm

Simpson stopper? there's a few by me, and a friend just bought one.  it's not so rare really.

it a pretty tree, with fragrant flowers, and small orange berries, that have a unique taste...the taste is one I'm not super fond of...like menthol citrus balsam?  hard to explain.

it's worth growing maybe for looks alone, and birds love fruit...maybe they taste good when used in moderation for certain recipes.

I'm almost certain there are improved varieties.

and it really is beautiful...I also plan to graft on myrcianthes pungens, in the near future

Thanks - I have never heard about it in private collections - perhaps because it is considered an inferior fruit.
