Ca atemoya taste
« on: January 18, 2018, 02:45:38 PM »
Have anyone notice this year the atemoya is not as flavorful?  My african pride are all over 1 lbs but are not as sweet.

I’ve only had the Atemoya x Cherimoya crosses so far this year and they have been sweet as normal. The Cherimoya were sweet as well.

If you had too many big fruit on your tree, perhaps it was underfertilized? Is your treein full sun?

I've been eating just a few African pride fruits this season, and they are all very sweet.
(And so were the Orton; Dr. White; El bumpo cherimoyas...)

My African best reason so far. The fruit is sweet and juicy with great texture.  The plant is on east side of the house and gets sun til noon to 1PM.

decided to pick the largest one and let it sit on the counter for a few days. my wife is more the expert and she approves. alot of work and time but worth it!

though..i found a smaller one that turned purple on the tree still.

I think my tree is over water.  It is not sweet.  very juicy.  I think i need more fertilizer and micronutrients.

The firset sets of fruit was nasty and no flaovr.
The second sets of fruit has a little flave and sweetness to them.
These are going to be my last sets of atemoya.  They are getting bigger and i hole they get a little over 3 lbs and taste better than the last two sets.

Do you wait until the fruit drop? I heard that is the best way to make sure that they have full flavor.
