Wanted: Grafted Pulasan Seedling
« on: June 19, 2013, 01:46:58 AM »
I know it's a longshot, but does anyone know where I could find such an item? Any decent variety would be fine, but of course seebabat would be my preference.

I know fruitlovers has seeds in the fall, and someone on eBay used to sell seedlings. But challenging to find budwood, not to mention I have no skill at grafting.

If anyone has any idea I'd love to hear, would be my dream to get my favorite fruit some day.

So are you looking for a grafted pulasan tree or a seedling tree?

Honestly, it would probably be cheaper and easier for you to save up all the money you'd spend on trying to grow a pulasan in zone 8 and buy a plane ticket to eat them in the tropics.

Haha! I've already done that! I guess it's always cheaper to move to the tropics...

Maybe I should just start with a seedling and see how long it lives, but ideally I'm looking for a small grafted plant. Short term I think I can keep it alive, but long term ill be building a more advanced greenhouse, hopefully I can find some land with an active geothermal spring. :)

Suggest you grow a seedling first, as they are hardier and more vigorous. If you can get that to good size than look for scion wood to graft onto it.

Appreciate the advice...I'll try that first! I'll order some seeds from you when you have them in stock.

Droshi,

I know where you can obtain one...

Birds & Buds Unlimited
Hilo, Hawaii
(808) 959-5750

David sold me a grafted Seebabat Pulasan about 9 months ago for approximately $40. He grafts them himself. Whether or not he ships to the mainland is unknown.

Blessings,

Ryan

He stopped shipping plants long time ago, so unless he wants to do it as a personal favor it's not going to happen.

I may just have to take a fruit hunting vacation to the islands in August :)

I've been reading that seedlings are very difficult to graft. I guess I should be looking for an air layered branch is how it seems. Would an air layer ship well after cutting it?

If I can get a hold of seeds I may still try growing to see if I can, but eventually I'll need an air layered plant, no?
