When do think sweet tart fruits will be ripe in South Florida? I got a tree from you and it is coming along great and should fruit this 2014 year.  If I had the room I would go for the juicy peach mango that Giorgio is trading

I didn't even know that Pineapple Pleasure (another fine mango) was for sale.

Not sure why, but I think I'm going to blame Patrick for my ignorance.

I am looking for any mango tree I don't have.  Send me your discards and I will send you a pineapple pleasure.   Am I the only dolt who ended up with doubles of certain mango varieties in a feeding frenzy of mango purchasing?

George, you're a mango addict or a mango-tree addict, I'm not sure which!

hahaha yah it would likely be lemon zest as the other tree.

My sweet tart had fruit in late august, even into early sept, but I don't know if that's the norm, since it was the first time it bore and considering the weird climate we had last winter.

I sure hope this is the normal season Sweet Tart season. Nice to be coming in late instead of mid season when everyone is inundated with mangoes

How much better is Lemon Zest than PPK ("Lemon Meringue")?

lemon zest fruit is bigger, flavor is more intense, and it has more of the orange sherbet flavor. Of the 22 mango trees here, I have 2 lemon zest and zero ppk (ie, i like the lemon zest quite a bit more).

Good to know cuz PPK is awfully good!  Haven't had the pleasure of trying Lemon Zest yet, but I know where you live, Jeff! ;)

HAHAHAHA yah, lz is incredible. It does seem to be one of those trees that takes a few years before it starts fruiting though. But the upfront payment in patience pays great dividends in yummy eating.

Speaking of non-precocious trees, my gold nugget jack (which is pretty big and several years old) has finally put out its first flower today. Hoping for a harvest of yumminess this coming summer.

Jeff, congrats on the GN showing its better half.  You may want to attempt hand pollination as my tree at my old house had some rather lumpy fruit with some only having a few bulbs of edibleness.  I was never able to catch a fruit at peak ripeness because I am too inexperienced and only checked the tree every couple weeks but I could taste the potential.

I never got to taste a PPK from my tree at the old house.  It took around six years to bear for the first time last year and squirrels, ducks, renters, and greedy neighbors got them.

OK. Thanks for the advice. I have noticed that some jacks will have pollination issues when they first start bearing. My black gold did that. But after the 2nd year, pollination improved. Hopefully the gold nugget will do the same.

Yah, lots of the thai'ish mangoes seem to want to get big before fruiting; the "regular" nam doc mai and the okrung are in the same boat. Planting them babies from seed would probably be an 8 year wait, where something more in the precocious end of the spectrum (ie, the julie) can fruit in a mere 4 years from seed. Unfortunately the long wait is a detractor for the less patient. However, for those who've tried the fruit, the wait is worth it :-).
