Cold Hardy Citrus / Re: Unknown citrus
« on: November 18, 2019, 09:45:02 PM »
It is not a Poncirus trifoliata on the second picture.
It's a root stock that had Owari grafted to it. What do you think it is? It looks like the trifoliata where I got the fruits for my seedlings.

I took a picture of Trifoliata and a picture of the unknown citrus and the leaves are definitely larger on the unknown compared to trifoliata

Here is a thought. Graft different varities on the shoots of the poncirus......and I will send you some poncirus seed and you can plant you some rootstock.....much easier that trying to air layer poncirus.....
I have seedlings growings. I just thought I would use this root stock instead of tossing it out. I will try grafting onto the shoots next spring. Thanks Bomand.

Cold Hardy Citrus / Root stock question
« on: November 16, 2019, 03:35:29 PM »
I found this old rootstock in a pot outside. I was cleaning out pots from my wreck of a greenhouse and found this trifoliata that was still alive. The citrus that was grafted to it died a few years back. It has sent up a few branches and I was wondering if I could air layer all of them at once, come next spring. I know trifoliata is difficult to root but was wondering if air layering would work.

This is how big one of my loquats had to get until it produced its first flower cluster just now. Its about 7 years old.
I sure hope I don't have to wait 7 years for it to bloom.

Could someone tell me what is happening with the leaves on my Loquat seedlings. I had it outside and it has been really cold for a couple of days. It has gone down in the upper 30s but not freezing.

Yes, but I don't think the CCPP budwood is a Daisy SL, it is the Daisy (VI-382).
Yes I know but I don't mind seeds. I would not buy because it is not a hardy citrus and CCPP budwood is too exspensive for me in Georgia.

Do I need to bring my Loquat seedlings inside for the winter? I know they will survive outside when larger but as 3" seedlings do I need to bring them inside?

Also, contact Stan at Mckenzie Farms to see if he has any more of the red finger limes grafted. I bought a red from him this summer. They are not listed on the page but he told me he would be grafting more. You can call and ask.

If you have snow and ice make sure your structure can hold up under the weight of it. My bent over pvc pipe domes secured to ground with rebar stakes hold up under heavy snow but as tree gets about 6 ft tall, I end up having to build wooden structures around each tree.

Do you have hot water in the trash cans?
