Please identify this fruit for me
« on: August 06, 2020, 05:25:19 PM »
Okay my wife was on the phone talking to her Caribbean friend going on and on about a plum so when she got off the phone I asked her what type of plum and she said I don't know we call it plum. When we were at Tropical Acres Farm I was walking in the park next to it and I took this photo. Can you identify what type of fruit this is :)

Thank you  :)  Do they fruit on new growth? Can they be maintain to reasonable size by annual pruning? Wife said it was red and they should not be given to children because of large seed. Is this something you would grow?

Im surprised there are no leaves at this time of year.  They should be fully flushed out.

There is a "purple" which is really a deep red in color when ripe and a gold.  I think they are best ripe.  Some like them semi ripe.  There are giid chutney recipes made with hog plums.
