Auction to help the forum! AUCTION HAS ENDED!
« on: December 07, 2012, 10:56:43 PM »
We have a grafted 'Excalibur Red' jackfruit tree for sale that came from budwood donated by Excalibur Fruit Trees in Lake Worth, Florida.

All of the money made from this auction will go directly to paying for the forums hosting as it has almost been a year now of the forums existence.

The bidding is public, so if you would like to bid please post it in this post.

Bidding is open to anyone who can receive a tree from FL (Sorry CA folks but this tree does not pass the regulations by your state to be shipped) but the bid amount will not include shipping and handling. The S&H cost will be added on after. Winning bidder is also free to pick up the tree in either Broward or Palm Beach County.

Auction ends Sunday December 16th.

Here are some pics and more info about the tree:
The 'Excalibur Red' jackfruit is a cultivar that was selected from hundreds of seedlings that were grown from "red" fruited jackfruit by Excalibur. It was selected for its excellent flavor that stood out among all of the other seedlings.

The tree is around 4ft tall and it has been pruned since grafted to maintain a single trunk until 4ft in height to gain the maximum amount of fruiting as the tree gets older.

It has been fertilized monthly that is why the leaves are so green with no signs of nutrient deficiency.

It has also never been sprayed with any pesticides so there are a few chew marks on a few of the leaves.

Grafted at 4inches high to ensure the fruit on the trunk will be 'Excalibur Red' and not the rootstock.

WINNING BID: $125

What a great idea to raise fund for the forum.  Can you have a similar auction for us folks in California?

Agreed - I love the idea of supporting the forum with an auction, but I just don't have space for a huge tree anymore. Sigh... Now if there's a Pickering of Jackfruits I might be convinced to brave my wife's eye-rolling and make a bid...

I'd be more than willing to chip in a few $$ to help support the forum.
I can do cash, check or PayPal, but I don't have very deep pockets.  :)

Great idea the burden of the forum should not fall on a few.Set up the Paypal account or publish an address to help with checks.

You can and probably should keep your jackfruit tree around 10 ft tall. Richard Campbell says that you should prune them and they like to be pruned. Here are some videos on pruning jackfuit and keeping it as a nice looking ornamental fruiting 10ft tree. If you show your wife these videos she may not mind you getting one!

This is exactly why I love this forum! Just when I think there's no way I can shoehorn another tropical fruit tree onto my property, along comes an enabler/fellow sufferer of tropical fruit mania who shows me how. Now I've just got to figure out what Jackfruit varietal to get... I'll save that one for another thread though. Don't want to hijack the auction.

Nice to see you yesterday, Brandon, when you picked up your new addition.  I was impressed with the plant and look forward to you fruiting it in a year or two....maybe three. And of course, your winning bid was going to a very good cause as we all are most appreciative of Patrick and Sheehan's patronage and time in putting this forum together.

Congrats Brandon!

That is a really nice tree.  I bet it's going to grow really fast.
