Kiwi - Jenny Variety
« on: April 22, 2023, 07:32:43 AM »
Has anyone had success with growing the jenny kiwi variety in the southeastern U.S.?  It is purported to not need a male pollinator.

If it truly needs only 100-200 hours, this will be an amazing variety.

I planted one 10 years ago in the southwest of Germany, Zone 7 and it grew very well. BUT: the fruit were much to small, little smaller than walnut. So I decided to regraft it with the Hayward variety and organized a male partner for it.
Now (third year with the new graft) the fruit are already as big as Jenny's were at harvest time. I recommend to plant Male and female. The male also seems to grow weaker and hence takes less space as the female.
