I let one grow that came up on it’s own... not only was it bland and unappetizing, the seeds ended up everywhere. They are weeds that I was puuling out of the ground for a few years, and still every once and a while one pops up.

Well, I think that one is indeed Pitomba... just the wrong pitomba (Talisia esculenta) instead of (Eugenia luschnathiana).

Hmm... that tree looks indistinguishable from a standard finger lime. Somehow I was expecting something intermediate between the two. Looks really healthy though.

Gypsum is a good additive for breaking up heavy clay soil. Pretty sure you can get a bag of it at HD pretty cheaply.
My passion fruit vine really took off and did much better in the ground than in a pot. Though it was hammered by that heat wave that we experienced this year, but I was away when it hit and couldn’t water when it needed it most.

There are three small paw paw trees at the Fullerton Arboretum, here in Southern California. I’ve seen them in bloom, but I haven’t been there at the right time to see if they held fruit.

Club soda would be putting carbon dioxide into the soil, not oxygen. Seems like you would be creating an anaerobic environment in the pot. That does not seem like a good idea to me.

I peel off the husk and put the bean-like seed onto the surface of seed starting potting mix, in a small pot. You can put a perforated platic bag over it if you want to keep the humidity up.

I stand corrected! I guess I was given false information... sorry for passing it on.

I acctually didn’t buy and grow the peanut butter plant about five years ago because I was told it needed a male and female tree, and I didn’t want to waste the space on a male tree. Maybe he was just trying to get me to buy an extra tree. :-/

Yeah, those seeds do look more papaya like than pea like.

I notice in your third picture the new leaf coming out is turning more palmate than spade shaped like the others. Leaning more towards papaya/papaya relitive.
Does it bleed milky white like a papaya?

It doesn’t really look leguminous to me... more like some kind of wierd papaya that formed an unholy marriage with a tamarillo.

Yeah, my Red Malaysian Guava looks exactly like that.

It seems to require a lot more water than my White Indian Guava, is slower growing, and is harder hit by high temps unless heavily watered.

It really depends on soil type and your local climate... my yard is 6” of dirt before I hit chalk. So for me it was a little of both, digging deep holes for trees and raising up with low stone walls for what is in essence a raised bed. There is really no “right” answer for everyone. This place has taken 40 years to get to a point that is just ok, but certainly not fantastic.

I’m no doctor... but my guess would be that breathing in particulate mater into your lungs might be the issue... not that chemicles would leach out into your planter. It’s probably to get you to wear a dust mask.

I grew those same yellow dragon fruit from Ecuador...

What I did is to sow the seeds directly on the surface and cover the pot with plastic wrap so the humidity would remain high. I kept the pot on a window sill so the seeds were getting diffused light.

Looks like some form of fungus with the fine black powder being reproductive spores. Maybe a slime mold?

Also, as an aside, capers are sorted by size... the smaller capers are considered the best. When a jar says “non-pareil” that means “without equal”, under 7mm, softer and more tender.

I have a couple of small plants that have not flowered yet, but from all that I have read, they are self fruitful. The pickled capers are generally the unopened flower buds anyway. They do pickle the fruit too but it is considdered inferior to the flower buds.
