Tropical Fruit Discussion / lychee root stock for Avo's
« on: March 15, 2016, 03:54:14 AM »
I have heard through a friend that Lychee is good root stock for Avocados. Has anyone ever tried this? He tells me that the Lychee root system is very strong and avos do well when grafted onto them. I have some Lychee seedlings in my shade house that will be good size for grafting soon so I am going to give it a try. I have a Hass avo growing here and will soon have 2 others to try as well. Thoughts anyone?

I have 8 or 10 sugar apple trees that split a few fruit at this time of year (the start of our wet season). I have tried to give them more water through irrigation in the lead up to the wet but I still get split fruit.

Gday, I am doing ok. I am located in Darwin Australia. Myself and my wife have a 5 acre block on the outskirts of Darwin at a town called Humpty Doo. We have cleared 75% of the native trees on our block and have around 35 Black Sapote trees (berniker, Mossman and maher) We also have around 20 purple mangosteen trees (not producing yet). We are hoping to increase our Mangosteen population to about 100 over the next 2 or 3 years. We also have another 3 varieties of Black Sapote that we will graft from soon. We have just started to experiement with grafting and have been fairly lucky so far to have a few successes. Currently we are trying to approach graft some yellow mangosteen onto our purple trees, not real sure how this is going yet as the grafts were only done about 3 weeks ago. We have read most threads on here about purple mangosteen grafting etc and are grateful of the information we have found on this website.

Cheers

Gday Mike,

I have a couple of Rollinia trees and get a few fruit but they are only "Bunnings" varieties. I also have an Abui that I grew from seed that I got from a friend. I would be interested in buying some of the seed from that Rollinia and Z4 Abui. Would you be interested in making a few dollars? Is there a knack when picking Rollinia to keep the knobs on the fruit from going black?

Cheers
Gary
