do you know the difference between the "Zills dark surinam" and the "black star" variety? there should be a better resource out there for the named cultivars

I ate a nice ripe Zill fruit today... Very tasty... and I can't tell much difference between it and Black Star... taste and quality wise very similar.

Is dasyblasta a surinam cherry variety? What's it like?

Is dasyblasta a surinam cherry variety? What's it like?

It is Eugenia uniflora dasyblasta a subspecies of suriname cherry
The tree has a small red fruit that is very unusual flavor. It is spicy and
I have heard that description about other fruit and it didn't live up to it.
To me this fruit has a strong spicy note and suprises you when you see
it's size. The tree is suppose to be very cold tolerant and it is a smaller tree
but produces very heavy. My Zill's dark produces heavy in the Spring and continues to
produce through out the season. The dasyblasta produces heavy in the Spring and
that's it

I am glad Kevin responded I have never eaten black star and can't make a fair comparison
The Zill's were very sweet last year much better then the previous year
They are loading up with flowers now

These Zills are definitely worth growing... and you won't be disappointed by the fruit quality...
Here's one from last fall:

Did the golden sugar apple come from Top tropicals? I stopped by there last
year and bought some of those seeds to include with an international shipment
I was doing and they look like pond apple seeds to me? If it is a pond apple
it should work?
