What's the secret to germinating v.parviflora? I've failed twice but third times a charm

Same.

2
How recently were the parviflora extracted from the fruit? Do they store well?

Hi everyone,

I am planning to repot my starfruits and jackfruit into large containers permanently. I am aware that seed grown trees like starfruit and particularly jackfruit have long tap roots which won't like being constrained by the boundaries of a pot. However due to circumstance I have no choice. Does anyone know a suitable container size for these species? Cheers

Tropical Fruit Discussion / miracle fruit watering advice
« on: January 03, 2023, 02:37:02 AM »
Hi all,

I have a young (approximately 3 years old) miracle fruit planted in 50% acidic potting mix (primarily peat) and 50% perlite. The rationale for this ratio of perlite to potting mix was to improve drainage. However, the peat is still retaining a considerable amount of moisture, which makes me wonder when a good time is to water the plant without creating an edaphic environment conducive to root rot. The last time I watered the plant was almost 2 weeks ago. The upper 1/2 to 2/3 of the pot is dry, but the bottom 1/2 to 1/3 of the pot is extremely wet (reading a 10 on a 1-10 scale moisture gauge). So, basically, it ranges from 3 (dry) for most of the pot, to a 10 (very wet) near the bottom.

The plant itself appears very healthy, although it hasn't put on any new growth for about 2 weeks. It is summer here, and the plant is subject to temperatures between 20 and 30 degrees Celsius daily, in full-sun.

Does this plant mind a lot of water or does it prefer to dry out before watering?

Any advice appreciated.

Anyone have any vasconcellea/carica/jacaratia seeds available?

Cheers.

6
Hey mate,

Do you have any carica/vasconcellea seeds available?

Cheers.

7
I do. Not much. Anything to trade

I do not, sadly. I only have a small collection of mostly common fruit plants, and the rare ones i do have aren't of fruiting age yet. If you are willing to sell some, doesn't matter how few, just let me know how much.
Cheers.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / In need of guava advice
« on: October 08, 2020, 10:29:14 PM »
Hi to all,

My young guava tree has been fully defoliated for about a month now, and is experiencing die-back from the top down. Interestingly, there is new growth appearing from the bottom and middle sections of the trunk. I would like some advice as to how I can stop it from continuing to die-back. The days have averaged approximately 16 - 17 C for the past month and has been watered only when the top soil has been dry.

Thanks.

PS. Moisture is 5.5 and pH about 6.8 according to the pictures.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Brown at the base of carambola seedling
« on: October 02, 2020, 04:45:31 AM »
Hi all,

Is the brown colouration at the base of this starfruit seedling normal or should I be concerned? The soil has only recently been watered - it was dry before.

Cheers.

Thanks all :)
