Citrus General Discussion / Re: citrus location - will this work?
« on: May 04, 2020, 04:07:51 PM »
It appears that you do not have a "perfect place.
The perfect situation IMHO is on the South side of a building,  preferable one that is occupied.  In an area that is protected from cold or damaging wind. As to size I have several navals that are only about 10 feet tall. They are grafted on Flying Dragon rootstock. This limits their size. I also pruned so that I have a main trunk, several big horizontal supporting branches and a good dome shaped crown. I prune wayward branches. The trees will set what fruit they can support. I also have support poles to place under heavily fruit laden branches. It iz not a sin to prune when you do it with a purpose and a goal in mind.

Gonna be a trick but I have  gotten on the newer branches and top worked different varities via cleft graft to grown poncirus. Be sure you try to get good scions and hou will have better luck. I have a few thorn scars from top working grown poncirus....I will not tell you about the time I fell off a ladder and into the large poncirus I was top working
😁😑

I surmise that the two are Volk Lemon....good for ornamental or rootstock imho. Really difficult to put a name on the other two. Perhaps later when they have some permanent and mature leaves on them.......

I do not use dish soap such as Dawn. It has strong oil cutting ingredients. Citrus leaves are full of oil. Better to purchase a good insecticideal soap available at all big box stores.

Save your money. There is no cure for hlb at the present. Spend the money you save by not buying this and spend it on a new tree.

I see the leaf close ups. It does look like hlb leaves but can be something else. Make sure you are not watering too much or fertilizing too much. You mentioned that you just applied cow manure....a no no for my trees. Cow manure, especially uncomposted and not cured manure....will burn.....

Hello Oscar & welcome to the forum. I opine that this is not hlb. If this were my tree I would pull some leaf samples and take them to your County Agent to have him verify the presence of hlb. Hlb has so many symptoms and different strains that it is hard to identify from photos. You tree may just have some nutritional needs that are not met. In as much as you live in FL this could be hlb but it is not like other symptoms I have seen. Can you state when and how you feed and water the tree? Can you post a close up of one damaged leaf?

The easy way to know that it is leaf miner damage is: look in the leaves...leaf miners leave a wavy trail (tunnel) inside the leaf. The  feces left by the miner makes the trail stand out. Lots of different flying wasp/bees live by feasting on aphids and other pest on citrus. He is not bothering your tree. The best leaf miner protection you can get is Bayer Systemic for citrus. Nothing will stop 100% of miners. BAYER can be found at all big box stores. Welcome to the forum.

The tall shoot can become the main trunk. I would top this tall shoot when its tall enough. This will cause lateral branches to grow and your tree will have more branches, be fuller and when fruiting time comes.....more fruit.

I have 35 in my rootstock arsenal for a couple of years now. It appears to be a vigorous rootstock and does not seem to have any dwarfing qualities.....further study is warranted as I do not consider three years long enough to draw viable conclusions.

Sorry Sea Walnut but.....Having crossed your path several times before I find that civil discussion with you is s thing that you can not do. I am going to do as I promised you slme time ago. That is.....I will have no exchange with you. Bowmand out.

Citrus General Discussion / Re: Flying dragon variety: Snow Dragon
« on: April 23, 2020, 12:12:50 PM »
Yes. I am a fan of varigated foilage and fruit.....but.....at 10 years and no blooms or fruit all former trials and experiments point toward a lost cause.....I do not know anyone else in the citrus circle that has a pure varigated poncirus that blooms and fruits.

I have also.....same story.....10 years old.....never even a bloom.

Very possible Millet. You are right. Disney promotes it as a lemon....fooling a lot of folks.

68
Probably a ponderosa or offering thereof. Po derosa gets huge.....not to be confused with the  many cultures of pomelo.

69
Eureka is my favorite lemon. Great tasting, easy to grow and a "real" lemon. It is IMHO a universal lemon. One can go to tons of various lemons......as lots of folks have done. Laaz is the lemon man....has tons of varities......

70
This is a "real" lemon. Not only that....a good tasting lemon.

I only have one "hand" and he is a worker from Mexico that I found in front of Home Depot several years ago......can only afford one.........can not pay standard wages but can give enough perks to make up.........

Remember that leaves only last a certain amount of time. When they have lived their time they yellow, look poorly, spot up and fall off. New ones take their place. This is common for citrus. Make sure this is not what is happening with your trees. Does not look like a nutrient lack of from the pics. Welcome to the forum.

I also would prune. Top the two branches and the tree will make a top with additional limbs that will bear fruit and lots of leaves means lots of healthy process going on. Since this is a container tree....that will regulate the size......

Citrus General Discussion / Re: splitting bark on Bearss Lime

This is cold damage. Sometimes it does not show till the Spring. Very damaging to a tree. If the bark damage is severe somstimes an in arch will save it.
