Tropical Fruit Discussion / Bender's Grove is OPEN!
« on: September 17, 2017, 09:55:54 AM »
Hi everyone, Hope everyone in South Florida is recovering. We have had a hellish week needless to say but we
are open regular hours Wednesday through Sunday 10-5 if anyone needs replacement trees. We lost about 30% of our inventory and the grove itself is on the road to recovery. Still have lots of Tree removal to go but the Nursery is in full operation. We could use some support, so anything we can help anyone with, we are here and determined to make this place better than ever! Hope all are safe and ready to re-plant!

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Good luck everyone!
« on: September 08, 2017, 06:50:57 AM »
I have not posted in a while, just wanted to wish everyone good luck and be safe in Florida.
We are resigned to the fact that this may be our end at Bender's Grove, We don't know what the next few days will bring,
we expect the worst while we hope for the best. small businesses like mine are usually the hardest hit, we cannot afford
insurance for our little nursery/grove, so have no clue if we can recover. Please be safe, good luck all! Mike Bender

Tropical Fruit Discussion / What's in a name?
« on: June 14, 2015, 04:06:32 PM »
Had a good customer tell me yesterday that a certain Fl nursery, which I won't name, because I think everyone will figure it out pretty quickly, they are offering a mango called Rosizest! Really? Where does anyone come up with this nonsense. Now I trust my customer implicitly and he is also a forum  member. So my question is this, do you really need to screw over people that bad to sell a tree? If true, and I believe it is. I think it's pretty pathetic. Now if such a tree and fruit exist I would love to see it, along with the Easterbunny and Santa!

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Lychee and Mango u pick farms!
« on: May 22, 2015, 01:59:21 PM »
I have been getting inundated with calls by people who want to pick their own fruit. First and foremost I am not a u-pick. I know of no one anymore that does this. First and foremost liability, theft, and litter not to mention loss of fruit by sampling. The best one happened today, three people come by and want to pick fruit. They are wearing overcoats or trench coats. We want to pick lychee. I could not contain myself. I said sorry we are not a u-pick. The one guy gets upset that I would not let them on the property. So I asked him what he did for a living. He says he owns a Chinese buffet. I said great let me come by, sample all your food and walk in your kitchen and cook myself something and then I will let you know if I want to buy something. He was not happy that I wouldn't let him pick fruit to sample so he could decide if he wanted to buy anything. Now mind you there are a couple of hundred pounds of fresh picked fruit ready for the weekend sale! Sheeeesh. Buy a tree and grow your own bro! I just thought this was classic. Especially the coats in 90+ degree weather. Did I mention the turnip truck I just fell off of? Lol.
