Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Zill 40-26 Fruit
« on: April 17, 2024, 05:21:58 PM »

My tree was planted as a 1g last year and is trying to hold 5 fruit. I just pulled them off. I think its too early to decide how it will behave. Also, the tree appears to grow compact and slow from what Ive seen at Tropical Acres... so could work in a tight area or a pot probably longer term.

Ok, I was going through all my photos and notes and found a screenshot I took. I always take screenshots of seeds I buy for records..I think its this one:

Is that Hapa Joe's Colombian Creme?

i had to look that one up. it does look very similar. i dont think i got any psidium seeds from him though. It does look kinda like that Caatinga the K-rimes posted too.

4

Still trying to find an ID on this one. I got seeds from Bellamy but lost tag. It has distinct red stems. Anyone else have one like this?

5

P striatulum with flowers and fruit holding. This came from seeds from Bellamy. Hopefully its better than the one Kelly had.

6

Here is another one from Marcos, P. salutare var. mucronatum. Has been super slow growing for me.

7

I have a few seedlings of the hybrid araza (Psidium guineense x P. grandifolium) Marcos offered. All flowered and are setting fruit.

Also “Zill -40-17 “ is an amazing coconut/sugarloaf flavor mango that I gave a 9/10 also so must be a really good mango.

I know next to nothing about the tree characteristics of 40-17 AND Gary.

Anyone have experience growing either ?

40-17 is excellent! I had a couple last year at Tropical Acres. The tree I saw is very compact too... I actually planted one out I liked it so much. I believe Gary is more upright, not too vigorous. Fruits tend to hide inside canopy. The tree I had at the fire station would fruit incosistently but I havent seen it in a while.

 Seeds are SOLD OUT

There is a chance you will get some hybrid seeds as I have a lot of Annona species flowering at the same time.

seeds come shipped in padded envelope.

Coconut Cream - still top coconut flavor for me but chopped down tree because never set fruit and when it did quality was poor from fruit to fruit.

M-4 - overall the best one for my yard with consistency and flavor.

Pina Colada - one of the best flavored mangos, maybe top 3 but not consistent and light bearing each year that it does set

I have a tree of 3-18 which as an excellent fruit too but hasnt fruited here yet.

Gary, 40-26, and Karen Michelle are great fruit too but dont have as much experience with them to comment on trees other than Gary being inconsistent here.

I know several folks who use Australian Pine for smoking and they like it. I have never used it but would if I got ahold of some. There are tons trees along the coast here that were introduced but considered an invasive now. I have used lychee wood and it came out great.

The oilless pump means you never need to change any oil or filter it. From what Ive seen it can get very tiresome to have to change the oil every few batches. The time saved and no need for buying oil is worth the extra cost imo.

I have a Harvest Right (Large) ... never had any issues. I heard after 2020 or so they started using cheaper parts and folks were having issues. I have the oil-less pump and never had any problems.

My Eugenia neosilvestris from Marcos fruited and gotta say it is in an excellent fruit. Great flavor with a brix of 26! I gave several of these away but not sure how they are doing. I stuck six in the ground and am now glad I did. Definitely one to have. Slow growers and can do very well in pots. I cant find my notes but I think I got them in 2018 or 2019? Only one has flowered and fruited so far. The birds have stolen more fruit than Ive got.

That's a really pretty cross-section photo. How big are your fruit? The other images I've seen of neosilvestris showed really tiny fruits.

they are about the size of a grumichama. maybe slightly smaller. I heard they can be grafted on grumichama too.

I fruited E hiemalis at the beginning of February. I was able to grab one fruit and it was sweet with no astringency. I let the others hang and thought I would sample some more throughout the week and all I found were seeds underneath the tree. Ive been fighting the birds a little this year. Makes a nice little hedge so far.

I fruited a couple 'Regina' seedlings. I got seeds from MiguelPt several years ago. They are best uniflora I've had. No resinous flavor at all and sweet. Mine hasnt had a lot of flowers but I just popped it in the ground so maybe it will improve flowering. I'll try to remember to get a brix on next fruit.

I planted the seed from these first 'Regina' fruits and fruited the first one this week and it produced a very beautiful red fruit, good flavor with no resin and a brix of 16.

19
Will you have seeds available at some point?

maybe..I will have seedlings available in a couple months.

20
Nice how long has your tree been fruiting!? Mine is flowering this year.

I have three seedlings that fruited last year for first time. They seem to grow a little different than my other unifloras. More of a weeping habit with some upright growth but easy to shape it. brix of 18.

21
my seeds originally sourced from Seeds Hunter. scions from fruiting tree. this is the best tasting uniflora Ive had. sweet with no resin.

budwood is chopstick/pencil size or a little smaller 6"-8"

will come wrapped in buddy tape

SOLD OUT[/b][/u]

I had a flowering chempedak that was a double rootstock on heterophyllus but a hurricane took it out one year. I have a flowering lakoocha and planted a pedalai last year that is around 12' now. I had a keledang but killed it somehow. Would like to find a seedling again as the seeds aways seem to rot before they arrive in the mail.
