Tropical Fruit Discussion / Humiriaceae - Information on family !
« on: June 11, 2015, 11:07:41 AM »
First I met this family was thanks to Vitor, or Brazilian member in this forum. From Whom I got two Endopleura uchi seeds. Unfortunately my seeds went bed, as I couldn't personally take care and my relatives weren't serious. But in future I definitely retry it.
However as i understand, this small family offers different other interesting edible species. Maybe anybody can give some more information on edible species, taste, uses......
In the Internet only limited sources seem to be available.
Thanks

I got seeds from Stuart and all sprouted very fine and grow without any problem. Each kernel contains two seeds. They sprout really fast. And grow without any problems compared to any other plant I have.

7
From my 12 seeds 6 sprouted - 5 immediately, and one 4 months later. The other 6 may still sprout at spring. The condition is very good, growing easily and fast. I had a problem with insect but solved it - the plant recovered fast and are growing. Hopefully they flower and fruit soon.

These are my Hodgsonias! For now 4 of 12 seeds sprouted!

Dear Digpati - a stupid question of mine, that i don't get from the picture. Does it have composed leafs or are these simply many leafs on a branch?

11
I have different collectors in some states of India and
some of them are knowledgeable in the subjects and the rest of them are not.
My collector from Assam just wrote Hedvekuli on the bag and sent it
(The plastic bag was much bigger than the paper envelope
containing Cassia fistula from a different collector).
My this collector from Orissa wrote Cassia fistula clearly on the
smaller paper packet with date and place of collection.
There was no confusion in both the items.
The mistake was done by the collector from Assam.
Usually I will ask photos of fruit, seed and leaf but that time he did not send.
Roy

At least for sure we know subfamily. I think I will be able to find out species

12
What I thought, the time You had Fissistigma You had available also Cassia fistula seeds. Can it be that the collector simple mislabled the two seed packages?

The problem is that maybe there is some reclassification needed.
I couldn't find unfortunately herbarium pictures of both taxa.
However many sources state G.cowa=G.kydia, what is strange, as the link You sent me definitely shows the opposite.
Also, your frouit doesn't look like G.cowa to me.G.cowa has the typical ribs. Basically a bit like G.gummi-gutta, but in lesser grade. You can see that clearly on the pictures You posted.

14
Yes dera Digpati. Sorry, i typed it wrong!
In a few days I will see the seeds myself and try to identify the species.
I had myself once various Senna and Chamaechrista absus growing.
From pictures of the seed and the seedlings I am 100% sure they are from Caesalpinioidae

15
According to plantlist however G.kydia is listet as independent species!

17
The first 2 pictures seem completely different. Many other pictures may be related, G.cowa seems to loose ribs during maturation...
4. looks actually like pedunculata???

It is really confusing. Some papers consider G.cowa and G,kzdia as synonyms, others clearly difference both. Have you in case any leaf and flower pictures? The fruit how it is described in one article is clearly G.kydia, but many articles consider G.kydia as synonym of G.kowa

19
It is  some Cassia, Senna or Chamaechrista most probably.
!00% it is from Caesapinoidae

20
Juglans nigra most probably!

No dear Sreekumar - I don't mean zadirachta or Melia, I simply mean that it could be of that family or an other family where such leaf structure is typical. Artocarpus doesn't have these kind of leafs.

Dear Sreekumar - this doesn't look like an Artocarpus neither Moraceae...
Maybe it is Meliaceae (but only maybe, I am not sure from leafs)
Artocarpus doesn't have such composed leafs
