a few more of the itaguahiensis seedlings have decided to flower. this one looks like it produces more flowers than any of the others....still no fruit set on the first tree..but it only had about 5 blooms...maybe one of the other seedlings will set fruits....

I guess when you have 5 trees, there's more of a chance to get lucky.

only one or two of the trees have held fruits so far..and not very many fruits (but had lots of flowers)....Im thinking if the poor fruit set wasn't because this is the first time it's flowered, it must be because it's root bound and in a greenhouse that gets about 100F.

either way, it's exciting to taste and fruit a brand new eugenia species...i'm not sure if anyone in the US has fruited this yet?

I notice the immature fruits have a very fine pubescence, unlike the common grumixama if I recall correctly.

let's hope each fruit has at least 2 nice seeds!! and they taste sweet!

the flavor is very good...pretty much exactly like grumixama...the skin is fuzzy though....funny they don't tell you this in the Brazilian fruits book...I guess you have to tune into the forum if you really want to get the skinny

I have just one itaguahiensis (in a container), bought last year from e-jardim. It´s a young plant with 1,20m tall, so, I think it will take one or two years before to fruit.

You beat me to it Adam , no flowering this year or maybe the flowers got knocked of like with the Mex. Garcinia , they both do flower in Januari here .

i almost had an entire crop failure, but i put a dish underneath my 3 gal pots...now they are holding fruits better..

they've seen temps of over 100F in the green house...they handle it quite well.

my trees are only in 3 gal pots about 2.5-3ft...they are only about 3 yrs old!

they don't take too long to fruit! (I have 1-2 out of 5 plants that did not flower yet)

The one from Filipe is completely different from M. cuspidata... I strongly suspect that the "Cambui amarelo da Serra" from Filipe is in fact the Eugenia acutata.

Mine finally fruited at 3 years old, in a 3-gallon pot:

As Adam said, the fruit is slightly fuzzy; the one my plant chose to hold (of 2 flowers) ended up being slightly larger than a US quarter.

your plant must be from the same batch of seeds as mine....it's like the exact same size!

nice working getting a lone plant to fruit...mine had tons of flowers, but only a few fruits...I think my greenhouse gets a bit too hot...I'm still trying to figure out the best way to keep it cool, with fresh air circulating.

I'm going for the triple threat...grafting, marcotting, and cuttings!

(i think grafting maybe the easiest....but marcotting could prove to be an effective means of propagation)

My plant used to be about 2 feet taller, but got a haircut shortly before it flowered. Not sure if the trim job is what triggered it to flower.

Luckily the plant does seem to either be self-fertile, or can set fruit with E. reinwardtiana or E. neonitida pollen...

Olá amigo! Hi! Well it's not for shure eugenia lutescens because i have it and it's very diferent. Regarding eugenia delicatula it's possible, but Miguel know it better than me... maby we will know only when it fruits.

Easy to grow, a delicious fruit, much like grumixama.

mine withstood extreme heat, and even some drought..also they were extremely rootbound, but still happy.

i just repotted them...looks like they may flower again very soon...

i'm excited to get more fruits and seeds of this rare species.

i will post an update if they flower and fruit
