Thank you. Any other suggestions? Borneo mangos are quite difficult ;D

Hi,
Found this mango in an ancient orchard with giat trees in Kuching, Borneo. Tastes exactly like oranges. Video on youtube https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=a_TgdZSA2Nw Any ideas about the species? Thank you

Wow, thats an impressive list. In contrast, most of the fruit i found are small jungle fruit, usually not too tasty.

No, for small scale traditional farming. Nashi and kaki grow well but most german kakis i tried are not tasty. And Diospyrus lotus is much smaller but grows much better, produces tons of seedlings.
Teror is a good place for kakis if i remember right. Or Tunte. Not the south coast.

Now im stuck in Putussibau. Boatmen want up to 1000us S for a 100 km trip upriver so i think they just consider it too dangerous now.
Do you have a list of your Muara Teweh fruit? Would be very interesting.

i have three willughbeias unidentified  ;D
Same with me. But the common one on Muara Teweh market, is it coriacea or sarawacensis or another one? And i tried to go deeper. Got struck at camp 66 living with the bridge repair team in a hut for 4 days while they waited for the buldozer repair crew😂, then i had to do a visa run🙄

Loquat is not uncommon now but only as an ornamental. Figs are a standard fruit tree in the area, good fruit if there is no rain. Pomegranate fruits well in sheltered locations but the fruit are quite sour or bland, good fruit quality only in very hot years. People here experiment also with lots of other mediterranean/ subtropical stuff. Pity i can only grow traditional fruit if i want to receive government money.

Never saw the tree. Got the fruit on the market.

Yes, thats the same fruit i found at camp 66 north of Puruk Jahu. Most probably excelsus. Lets hope more info on the inedible durians comes online soon. Here they are just considered valuable timber.

Temp fluctuations are quite small in Borneo but in the dry season ( they call it summer) its supposed to be hotter. And Rundum is very wet.
I would not give up on the ultra tropicals, though. One example: in Germany Eryobotrya usually comes from the Mediterranean. Trees fruit once in about 10 years and freeze once in about 10 years. There is a pretty large Eryobotrya tree in Heidelberg that fruits every year. When i asked the owner where its from he said from Brazil.
Coconut trees are common in the Canary resorts but fruit are often small, sometimes without flesh or even a hard shell . The tourists pick the ones on low trees while unripe.

There is yellow mangosteen in the botanico in Puerto.
In Borneo in the village of Rundum i saw rollinia, abiu, Garcinia forbesii, tarap and even fruiting durian. Elevation 1200 m, day temperature in February around 11C, felt like the highland of El Hierro, most ultra tropicals dont grow there but i think most of the fruit i saw there could do well in the Canary islands.

I think now that its Dracontomelon costatum

South, central, east and west Kalimantan. Plus Sarawak. And 200 are only the ones i cant id. However, i could be counting many Garcinia, Baccaurea, Ficus, ginger and rattan double so if you call me out on that i might only be able to proove about 170-180 unidentified species from this trip. And im also counting some nuts and stuff you need to cook, technically vegetables. But if someone wants to help with id them i appreciate every help.

Hi, jackfruit, sapodilla, mamey, white sapote, dragonfruit, eggfruit, longan are hard to find. Your best bet is the market of Santa Cruz. Never found rollinia or mangosteen. Lychee should be available but never saw it.
Try the yellow dragon fruit grown locally.
Cherimoyas are mostly imported from Andalucia. September , October is fine. Best botanic gardens: puerto de la Cruz, here also jardin aquatico, Sta. Cruz (Garcia Sanabria and Palmetum). Lots of subtropical fruits grown in the towns or farms, check every garden and fruit shop, dont steal. ;) Bananera El Guanche (farm with fruit tasting) is closed. Finca el lemon in los silos ( privately owned by hippies, like a jungle, good fruit collection). Second best island for fruit is Gran Canaria but dryer

Hi, bought this fruit at the market of Tamiang Layang in Borneo. Thought it was matoa but several locals who tried it say its not matoa. Any ideas?

220
Thanks, i use this page a lot for durian id but there is little info about the so called "inedible" durians online. There are a couple of sites clearly showing my durian but without latin names.

It would help if you write where you found it an if it seemed to be wild or planted.

222
The skin and seeds look like griffithi, but the arils are very different. Another possibility would be d. excelsus.

223
No, im eating dulcis here, too. And i can smell a fruiting dulcis tree from 30 m away. This one is completely different.

224
No, im eating sukang (D. graveolens) in all colour varieties almost daily.

225
Thank you
