Basically if they took plants from the mountains of Lebanon or Palestine they should be quite frost hardy.
I found a place that grows Mediterranean scrub / trees in zone 7a on a frosty mountaintop:

And here is somebody growing pawpaw in Canada, maybe he can help. Search in the comments:

Yes, i found incredible stuff in France
They are usually not so keen on growing exotic stuff but the usual peaches, melons or apricots are very good.
However, in the area of Menton/France - Bordighera/Italy on the foothills of the Akps there is a subtropical heaven at the same geographical letitude as S Canada. (yes, Canada, not California). Here i picked outdoor papayas, avocados, dates, Malpighia, Eugenia, bananas, macadamia, jelly palm and many many more. I made tons of vids about the rare fruit as well as the amazing gardens and will keep uploading them for at least one more month:

Thank you.
I just need some fruit crazy garden owner in Macaronesia to try and grow some seeds i might get from Borneo, i will not even try germinating them in Germany.
Although the Brazilian loquat from the tropics grows better in Heidelberg than the mediterranean varieties😂

Thank you, yes, i was planning to contact Cueva del Polvo.

I have been in quite cold Borneo mountains ( T not rising above 11C for days un Feb), so i think the north or even the laurisilva might be better for the fruit of those areas than the south.
I would try all Artocarpus i can find, some might survive.

Hi,
Im going fruit hunting on Tenerife in Nov.  Can you tell me the best botanic gardens, parks, farms, nurseries? And are there any TFF members there willing to meet and share some experience? Also, i have been travelling in mountain areas of Borneo and SE-Asia and i am looking for someone ( preferably on the north coast or Anaga/Teno) willing to try growing fruit like mountain durian, Artocarpus, garcinia, rambutan in Tenerife.

I have already been to the Botanico, the Higuela, Sitio Litre, Jardin Aquatico, Garcia Sanabria and the Palmetum and know about Hamilton Gardens, Tigaiga gardens,Victoria gardens, la Constitution and la Granha. Im even more interested in tropical fruit farms and nurseries and most of all in fruit addicts like me.
Thank you in advance☺️

Now someone from S Carolina wants some seeds. I know the US have very strict quarantine rules. Can i send loquat seeds to the US legally?
Thanks

Wow, thanks, Menton sure is on my list, too. What about the Narbonne or Bordeaux area?

61
Wow, thanks. I never thought they would grow that far north. Anything on the Mediterranean?

62
Not going there this time but thank you.
Anything interesting on the Atlantic coast?

It seems that the new president needs to please his agrobusiness supporters so he had allowed large scale logging and burning even inside national parks and Native American reservations😡

Thank you. Any other cool places?

Thank you

Hi,
a couple years ago i stumbled by accident upon the small village of St Martin in Germany. Their priest had the daring idea to plant all the plants mentioned in the Bible around the church. In Germany!
They were more successful than i would ever dream managing to grow olives, pistaccio trees, carob snd many more without any protection exept the mild microclimate. Check that out:

I always picked it myself, no idea about the varieties. In Arizona i had very delicious fruit, even if i picked them underripe they would ripen to be quite adequate.
In Gran Canaria i tried several trees from abandoned gardens, the fruit were always slightly bitter. This is maybe the reason i never saw them in Canary markets. Or maybe they lacked irrigation.

Hi,
found the perfect Loquat for temperate climate. Seems to belong to the Japanese type of varieties with whitish soft tasty flesh. Was brought from Brazil as a fruit and has been growing and fruiting regularly in Heidelberg/Germany (USDA zone 8a, now rather 8b) for almost 10 years

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Growing cherimoya in France
« on: June 27, 2019, 04:48:14 AM »
The wind itself should not be a problem. In Spain very exposed branches might die back from the wind but the trees survive.
The problem might rather be the low temperature of the Mistral in S. France, maybe in combination with some pests. Did you see anything on the roots when you removed the tree?. In S. Spain the Cherimoya plantations hug the coast and i do not remember seing any more than 5-6 km from the sea. So they are very salt tolerant but not frost tolerant.
You might be successful at Menton as long as you find a nice sheltered spot for them. I wish you luck and please report on the results👍

Kweni/kuini is not my favorite because of the machine oil smell but definitely a taste experience you will remember:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RZ-kAKnfHHQ&list=PL2AyaQ9frDUvKuCPQviG3Pt9BHXA6jKbz&index=23&t=0s

Try it before planting a tree since you might love or hate it😉
