They’re fine. Every tree has some sort of defect, spot, bug bite on it. It’s natural

« on: March 02, 2020, 09:29:34 AM »
I have a “Vanilla” rollinia seedling from them that I purchased over the summer. Deleafed, heavily pruned, and starting to flush out. Grows fairly slowly compared to another rollinia I have planted not too far away.

Blooms emerging now on M-4, Fruit Punch, Guava and Lemon Zest. Peach Cobbler, Sweet Tart, and Buttercream aren’t far behind. Venus and Sugarloaf don’t look very promising. Hoping for the best

The strand with the white spot at the tip is a green lacewing egg. The larvae of green lacewings are voracious predators of aphids, spider mites, etc. The can eat 400+ aphids in a few week span.

Looks good! You could take a little off of the central leader to get some more branching.

Yes, also on new mango flushes. Long legged flies have moved in and seem to be dramatically lowering their populations. I am in Stuart, Florida. The only place I have found them reproducing is on sugar apple. They also hit jackfruit. I first noticed them on sweet potato, it was so bad I ripped them all out. It may be sweet potato whitefly.

I visited Dr. Campbells place in July and his Orange Sherbet trees were loaded with fruit. Out of approximately 300 mango trees 40 were Orange Sherbet. He was discussing plans to possibly commercialize it with a company he works for. He spoke very highly of this cultivar, it was near the top of his must plant list.

Check out Canal Street in Lower Manhattan, close proximity to Brooklyn. There are many vendors set up along the street selling produce. I have purchased many rare fruits there such as Durian, mangosteen, longan etc.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: GOAT Mango (3 Choices)
« on: August 01, 2019, 02:38:22 PM »
Good question. And I can't answer based on only 3. Because mangos have such different flavor profiles, best I can do is say the best from each category (which of itself is only nebulously defined). So here goes:

GOAT MANGOS

CLASSIC - Tie between Ah Ping and Edward
INDIAN/ALPHONSO - from Devgad India: Alphonso, from Florida: Super Julie
INDIAN/WEST INDIAN RESIN - Tie between Sunrise and White Piri
INDIAN/WEST INDIAN SPICE - Mesk
CITRUS - Tie between Lemon Zest, Cac, Peach Cobbler (all have different complementary flavor aspects)
INDOCHINESE - Sweet Tart
COCONUT - Tie between M-4 and Coconut Cream
PINEAPPLE - Pineapple Pleasure
COCONUT/PINEAPPLE - Sugarloaf/E-4
FLORAL - Mahachanok
UNIQUE - ST Maui (flavor is citrus (not orange), Pineapple, Guava)
Super Julie is the same as Fairchild Ruby?
Yes. Super Julie=Fairchild Ruby=J-12
