do you use terrariums?
« on: July 27, 2018, 02:22:21 PM »
hello everyone!
do you use any tools for growing your seeds? any greenhouses, terrariums? I am curious, because most tropical plants need high temperatures and their growing conditions can be very high..I have never used such things for them and my plants always grow amazing. I am expanding my collection now and exchanging my seeds/seedling with other gardeners, so I wanted to ask you what method for growing them do you use!

It is hot enough here in south Florida we generally need shade but For sensitive cuttings I have used a plastic bag over the top to increase humidity.

I use dome trays like this one https://www.amazon.com/Hydrofarm-Start-CK64060-House-insert/dp/B0006VK68E/ref=asc_df_B0006VK68E/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=167128818228&hvpos=1o7&hvnetw=g&hvrand=740477108207422917&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9011761&hvtargid=pla-299050148314&psc=1

for grafting very small trees that I don't think would do as well with parafilm or buddy tape. It seems to do the trick. Similarly, I live in FL so I have to stash the tray in the shade so it doesn't get too hot.

I've used cut-off 2 liter soda bottles (available after a party) to create a humidity dome.  I ended up having a hard time aclimatizing the seedlings once they began to outgrow the dome.  About half survived.
