Title: Paclobutrazol
Post by: druss on June 14, 2019, 12:48:40 AM
I was reading an article about a Japanese researcher using this
Paclobutrazol in Japan to restrict the size of avocados. I also spoke to a former mango farmer from the nt who had seen something like this trialled. Im wondering if it could be used to restrict the size of Durians so they could be grown in a hothouse.

Dwarfism in herbaceous using plant hormones is not complicated to achieve. Has been done since decades, specially for 'one use' flower plants. Gigantism is easy also but fruit's taste don't worth the effort.

I posted several links on Bonzi which contains paclo.  Field studies on Hass showed the beneficial effects regarding fruit production and size.  I use it on anything that I want to control. If a tree is leggy and has long internodes I may treat it.

I wouldn't use it on fruits, on ornamental it's okay.  Safety is an issue.

I'm still walking.  ;)

Been used for decades on mango orchards in India, avocado orchards worldwide especially in Australia.
