There are two  varieties of mf. I'm guessing that is from the larger fruiting hairy variety

My miracle fruit is blocking the face of,  George "wooden teeth, hemp growing" Washington, first of our Presidents!  On a quarter... :)

Also, don't be confused...there are more varieties of miracle fruit than  you may think.

I have at least 2 varieties in my area, all of the same species Synsepalum dulcificum....and have started to categorize/select certain special trees over the past 5 yrs.

The Synsepalum subcordatum, is totally different, with no effects present in the fruits...the tree is extremely rare, and I've only seen one in USA, belonging to Bill Whitman.

I have seen others, selling different varieties of the regular S. dulcificum, as subcordatum, based upon larger leaf size.  With miracle fruit, some have small leaves, some have large...some have large fruits, some have small.

More variation exists than you may think, after all how many fruiting miracle fruit plants have you inspected? I forget now how many it's been for me, but well over 200 for sure.

So this fruit is Sysepalum dulcifium, and is regular miracle fruit.  Some of the fruits in the picture were taken from same tree as large fruit.

BTW George Washington didn't have wood teeth..but if he did, id recommend lignum vitae.
