The Opposite of a Forum Member (A Little Humor)
« on: April 30, 2021, 10:33:29 PM »
My next door neighbor is a cool guy and likes to garden.  His wife calls him a farmer.  But in one very significant way he's different than any forum member.
"Jorge, what kind of mango did you plant?  It's growing well."
"I don't know.  I grafted it from Ed's tree over there."

"What kind of avocado is this, Jorge?"
"I don't know.  I got the wood from a little tree I saw growing in front of one of the villas."

"Wow, Jorge!  Your grapevine has lots of grapes.  That's so cool.  What kind of grape is it?"
"I don't know.  I got it from my brother."

"Hey, John, would you like some bananas?  I just cut down the stalk."
"Heck yes!  What variety is it?  Does it have a name?"
"No.  You can name it whatever you want."

Friend: "Hey Ryan, that's a nice jaboticaba there. Do you know what it is?"
Me:"Yeah, its a grafted esalq."
Friend:"You sure?"
Me:"Here, let me ask the man down the street who I got it from."
Friend:"Sounds good. I'll do the talking."
Friend:"Hey your friend Ryan said he got this grafted esalq jabo from you. You sure it's a grafted esalq? Kinda looks like the sabara."
The guy:"Who's Ryan? And what's a Jaboticaba?"

Mislabeled and unknown trees are super annoying! Make sure to know what variety it is! Don't want to spread mislabeled trees! If it's a seedling tree, at least give it a name or something ;) .

Very funny, get this locally with people selling durian and rambutan trees you ask what variety or cultivar it is and they respond a good one lol.

My old landscaper, who has his own private nursery, is just like that.

Q: What kind of jabo is that?

A: It has black fruits.

Q: What kind of rollinia is this?

A: Tasty kind.

"No-name" papaya.  "No-name" grape.

This is in my "No Fruit Allowed" community.  I think there's hope for me!

I can't help much, but that grape is a bunch grape of some kind not a muscadine. That should narrow things down quite a bit once it finally gets ripe. The list of bunch grapes that survive here long term is pretty short.  I would be interested to see pictures of the ripe fruit.
