A jackfruit named Irma

When we evacuated Sarasota from the hurricane, I decided to cut one of the jackfruit from my tree that was close to being mature. I was afraid it might not survive the storm.
It was evacuated to West Palm Beach, and my kids decided to name it Irma.
62 pounds.

The tree that this fruit came from snapped just above where the fruit was.
This is what's left of it after I cut it just below the damaged area.

With that heavy fruit on would have even been more likely to snap and do more extensive damage. So smart to remove it. (I wonder how many people will name their new babies Irma?
)
That is an unusual shaped jackfruit. Most here are elongated in shape.

With your climate that jack will go into beast-mode. I think you'll be ok. Good luck. Chris
