Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Sugar Apple leaf Problem
« on: March 22, 2017, 09:45:04 PM »
Mine are like that too.. had 2 years now and had fruit even last year. Just winter leaves, don't worry..

When it gets cold i think it gets that way.. like others, little leaves are starting to come out at the tips now..

Is it because the air is too dry for most of the day? I do drip now for 35 minutes (increased to 20) and also do a sprinkler spray for 5 minutes (to increase humidity), but that's only done when I get home around 6pm.. I'm having the same problems too.. and also some of the mango trees have long branches, but few leaves.. while others are ok.. still fruiting on some too.. Lemon Zest and St. Maui.. I'll try different things this year and see what happens..

no problem in keeping it alive.. but I think it's a tropical plant too that needs moisture in the air.. unfortunately, we get very very dry during the noon and afternoon hours..

I bought it online and this was in September 2014 when I planted in ground..

and this is just yesterday.. so not bad for almost 2 years I think.. of course, it's nothing like Florida or other tropical places.. for some reason, the plant has a lot more leaves in the timeframe of September to December.. it looks ugly now..

lots of hand pollination I bet  ;D .. My 7 foot one has a lot of flowers (more than 100 easy), but no fruit.. maybe I need to start hand pollinating.. I'm looking at videos online and trying a few.. tried about 10 or 20 this year, but don't know if I did it right or not..  :( Well, if you have a "too much fruit" problem, you can send some this way  ;D the tree was about 3 ft , planted in Sep 2014, so still early.. next year would be a good start for me to hand pollinate..

Here's a Coconut Cream for your reference.. I don't have a Mahachanok:

Ok, thanks.. I'll get Pickering then.. I was deciding between Carrie or Pickering for the 2nd mango..

Last time I bought mangos from a mexican supermarket (Frescos, I think.. or Superior).. the mango tasted good, but had lots of fiber.. it got stuck in my teeth even with the 1st bite..

I'm going to probably get a Kesar and a Carrie/Pickering now.. Then Maha Chanok and probably Fruit Punch.. haha, not all of them.. just that order preference..

What are the mangos that are usually sold in the supermarkets (red/green/orange color)? Is it Kent? That tastes good, but mega fiber with every bite.. does the Pickering or Carrie have a no fiber status too like Lemon Zest and Sweet Tart? Thanks.

Hi, I would like to get some new mango trees.. have a few (Lemon Zest x 2, Ice Cream, Lemon Meringue, St. Maui, Sweet Tart)..

I just got a coconut cream mango on order coming soon, but would probably like to add one or two more different kinds of mangos.. probably with a unique taste than what I already have.

Can you recommend from the following:

Carrie, Fruit Punch, Glenn, Pickering, Cogshell, Baileys Marvel, Jakarta, Kent, Valencia Pride, Harvest Moon, Maha Chanok, Nam Doc Mai, Kesar, Kent, Mailika, Sunrise, Spirit of 76.

Thanks.

====================================

GENERAL SYMPTOMS OF PHOSPHORUS EXCESS IN PLANTS
Too much Phosphorus can suppress the uptake of micronutrients such as Iron and Zinc. An overabundance of Phosphorus can also interfere with Nitrogen absorption.

GENERAL SYMPTOMS OF IRON EXCESS IN PLANTS
Plants don’t require much Iron so an excess can kill a plant. Excess affects a plant’s ability to draw in other essential nutrients, such as Phosphate and Nitrogen, without which a plant cannot function.

thanks for the website. It's more informative than the one I gave you, and also has the colors too.. At the bottom, I noticed an advertisement for Osmocote.. maybe that's the one to use then?

I just sent a link to see what kind of general problems you may have.. haha, but you may already know that..

I have a lot of dead branches from last year too that don't have leaves.. is it safe to remove them? It's been in the ground since Sep 2014.. about double in size? The leaves seem to be much better around December though compared to the summer.. The only thing is this year the temperatures have been much cooler.. we are still getting 60s and 70s as day highs.. years before it should be just like this week (mid 80s) by now..

wow, nice fruit crazyforcherimoya! It just looks like mine too  ;D I can't wait to taste mine too..This is the 2nd year and already getting fruit.. not as big as yours though.. I think you should just let it fruit and then remove the branch after harvest.. It looks as thick as the main trunk so that's not good if you remove it now since you have fruit.. The fruit would need as many leaves as possible now..

48
I think it has to do with the cool temperatures.. I had that too on some but not all the fruits like yours.. we have been getting plenty of cool temps (70s or below), but just a week total of over 90s so far.. nothing too hot or dry..

49
looks like 5 years my guess? Mine is starting to bud first year, but it's still really small too.. hopefully I can try a fruit by the end of this year.. when do they usually flower and fruit? wow, you guys have so much extra land to plant with.. just from that picture I see places for more trees already..

50
just keep planting trees and don't waste time to stop.. by the time you get to 100, you should have some fruit on your first one  ;D
