Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Mango trees from Top Tropical.
« on: April 23, 2014, 02:58:44 PM »
I'm growing some mangos too in Southern California.. but like all my other trees, if they can last one winter here (without much support), then they should have no problem..  ;D almost all of them that have at least survived one winter are alive.. even the tropical plants too like abiu..

Hi guys,

I am interested in buying a few cherimoya/atemoya trees. Originally, I was emailing Ethan on recommendations from others, but his computer was down for almost a month. I started asking other people (Norman Beard / Roger Meyer) and kept in contact with them too. Who should I purchase the trees from? haha, I feel sorry for talking with them for a while and not buying from them.. but if I do buy from all of them, then I would end up with 30 trees or something like that.. then my wife would make me sleep with the trees instead..  :-\ Can you guys give me recommendations on who to buy from, as in like who offers the better selection/prices/cultivars?

Thanks,
Michael

Is Ethan back yet? still waiting..  :-\

534
ok, thanks for the update!  ;D

535
Is Ethan online yet? I still haven't received a response from him.  :P Hope he gets back online soon.. I want to order a few things..

536
I updated the list I'm going to buy.  ;D I hope to have pictures soon too.. ;) sent you an email.  Please reply. Also, what is your paypal email?

Thanks.

537
wow, I'm sorry to hear that  :( I also ordered a 7 gallon sugar apple too from her ($65).. and it looks really good too.. just really small leaves now still sprouting.. it is about 5'+ tall too.. maybe it is because I ordered two plants together so it is packed more tightly? Yeah, she said mine shipped Tuesday and it arrived Saturday (Fedex).. where do you live?

538
The plant came in excellent condition.. box had a bamboo that was about half inch higher than the tree.. other companies bent their plants and I had one break on me (break in half, but still alive now).. haha, that was my other abiu.. the plants (this 64 inch abiu and sapodilla) are in the ground now and the abiu leaves are dropping down.. only 1 or two or dropping now.. that's ok, it needs to adjust..
what happened to your experience? what did she do wrong? Both my plants looked just like the pictures  :)

539
Thanks Ethan!  ;D Yeah, I just sent you an email asking if you had any biriba left this year.. oh, but they look so small haha.. I was hoping for a 3 gallon size?

540
I tried buying two plants from Plantogram.. they gave me a 1 ft Abiu (when it was supposed to be at least 3 gallons) and a 3 ft lychee (3 gallons).. the abiu didn't even start growing leaves until now.. originally I had ordered three plants and wanted to cancel one.. When I called them a few days later, they said they sent out a "modification" email which I never received.. they said they were going to send another one out immediately (and I never got it).. I had to make them paypal back the money the next day in order for me to feel safe about not ordering the additional plant.. very bad seller.. =( plants were not good (I had to replace the abiu with Lynn's - tropicaltreasure on ebay).. her was really 64 inches tall (3 gallons) and about the same price too..

I actually did talk to Lynn about the biriba.. she said she will get some soon in a few months.. haha.. just can't wait..

did she reply to you fruitnut?

541
ok thanks for the link.. but isn't that too expensive? I don't know.. I looked around and I have seen cheaper.. I hear that rollinia tends to grow very fast, so maybe I can get a tiny one or a 3 gallon one? Which do you think?

542
Hi,

I'm looking for any biriba/rollinia trees or scions? I'm still not sure what a scion is (I looked it up online - something about top part of the plant?).. are you able to plant these, or do these need to be grafted onto something? Well, I just want to purchase some trees then if I can't plant those. Does anyone have any? Thanks.  ;D

The packages arrived really good, the plants were not bent and there was a bamboo about quarter to half inch higher than the plant.. the box was taller than the plant (other nurserys bend their plants so that's not good).. like I said in my other posts, I have received plants where they bend it to fit in a smaller box and was broken in half when I got it.. the trees were in excellent shape (the abiu was really 64 inches even though I ordered the 3 gallon, almost as tall as I am) and still had all the big leaves.. the sugar apple had little leaves sprouting and lots of leaf buds and was about 5 1/2 feet too (well, because I ordered the 7 gallon one so that makes sense).. the last one is the sapodilla alano.. it was only about 4 ft tall (ordered 3 gallons) but still in excellent condition.. all the leaves are green and none fell even after being kept in the boxes for 5 days.. she shipped Tuesday and it arrived Saturday... it was estimated to come Thursday (so actually only 2 days transit), but Fedex changed their delivery estimate..

Overall Score : Excellent

oh, she is an ebay seller.. with about 100 points (now 150 I believe).. and just have reasonable prices.. I have tried a lot of places all around and from what she tells me about my abiu (64 inches) for $65.. that seems really good to me.. I will hold final judgement when the product arrives.. like I said before, as long as it isn't broken in half, then she earns my approval..

here is the direct ebay link:

feedback from buyers

it's all different buyers saying good stuff too..

Yeah, they are very good so far.. I have been in contact with the seller "Lynn".. and she has been answering my questions back and forth on everything.. even things I wasn't purchasing.. I bought an Abiu, Sapodilla (Alano), and Sugar Apple 7g.. her prices are really reasonable too.. Sugar apple 7g was $65 + 25 shipping... she said the abiu that was shipped measured 64 inches (bought at $65 too).. I'm receiving the plants this weekend.. so I will know more about whether the plants are good or not.. one good thing is she said they don't bend the plants.. they put them in boxes that are higher (put a bamboo that is quarter size higher than the plant).. I have received plants where they bend it and it gets broken in half (my other abiu from somewhere else).. that one is sprouting new leaves already though  :D
