Does fruit need to be mature before their seeds will grow?
« on: June 03, 2020, 02:51:58 PM »
Hey there,
I have two Kaffir lime trees and a neighbor is desperate to her own.  I'm willing to offer her up seeds from the fruit that mine produces but they are young fruit, very young .   Does anyone know if these still grow?  Fruit isn't an issue , we only use the leaves anyways.

::as long as  the seeds are full size they will grow. I planted seed from green fruit this year and had no problem. Welcome to the forum.

Thank you.  Not sure how to tell if it's full size but at least there is hope.  In any case she can try and see what happens.

I would wait until the fruit are at least full size, that should mean the seeds are full size inside. I think they don’t need to turn yellow. Tomatoes from Florida are picked green, but technically the seeds are ripe. Too young and nothing will grow (well, unless you have a good laboratory).
