Title: Are my roots dead?

I was planting out a few potted citrus trees are notice one had dry looking roots.  They weren't crumbling away, but not bright white on the tips.  Does this mean my rootstock died?  The plant is about 2 feet high and doesn't look great, but is trying to push new growth.  I'm wondering if the roots are dormant or if they are dead and the top of the tree is still running off stored nutrients.

Probably OK.  Check you watering habits.

Probably my habit of overwatering/overfertilizing.  I'm going to graft a couple of extras just in case.

Is there any systemic treatment for root rot?

Rotted roots will appear soggy and disintegrate when sprayed with a bit of water.  If you have dry roots it is unlikely you have root rot.

Yes there is a chemical control that helps, but stays in the plant up to a year.
