Barbados Cherry
« on: July 28, 2018, 01:53:33 PM »
Hi,

I have a Barbados cherry tree that is for the third time this year flowering. The first time I only received around 10 cherries and the second time nothing. I was wondering how could I increase the amount of fruit set? Is there a method of hand pollination I can perform?

Thanks.

I had the same issue and read a post in here that really worked. By some Omari bloom set brand Bonide. I was getting plenty of flowers and most would die and small cherries would fall off. After I sprayed this on the flowers and leaves the tree went crazy. Most blossoms are making fruit and it keeps pumping out cherries faster than I want to eat them. I've also had good rain and I know that lost of water really gets them flowering when it hot out

How old or big is the tree? It could be a maturity issue. Also as already mentioned they love water.

No where to plant it ...but at least I got it. ;)

My Barbados cherry is the most trouble free tree I have.  All it does is grow and produce far more cherries than I can eat.  I only do 2 things, maybe you could repeat??

1. I do feed very well with citrus fertilizer with micros and 2% iron.
2. It is in a very well drained spot that gets a very healthy amount of water from both sprinkler heads and one of my downspouts.

Honestly, I'm surprised anyone is having trouble with one.  I'm on year 3 and the fruit is the best ever.

The tree is probably 2-3 yrs old. I do believe I provide it with enough water and fertilizer because it does throw-off tons of flowers; just that they never really set.

Sorry guess the iPad changed my word pretty bad. Buy tomato & bloom set made by  Bonide. Had amazing results for me
