Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Cut nut (Barringtonia edulis)
« on: September 19, 2017, 08:09:40 PM »
So who else started these from seed and how long did they take to sprout ?

I purchased three Cut Nut seeds from Malaysia in July. 2 seeds arrived sprouted (only several millimeters from their shells) after 1 week in transit. The other one sprouted 1 week after that.

I didn't think they would sprouted that fast. Maybe they were stored/sowed some time before being shipped.

Thanks Arvind! This is very much helps. I've just found his facebook page. He is 100% a Matoa expert.

I also bought the varieties from Han Sen.There are about 6 other varieties that i know .Among them are the green colored with hard shell, green colored with thin shell, yellow colored shell, yellow with reddish tinge, red colored, green with reddish tinge and brown colored shell

That is quite many! After successfully treating my current Pometia, I'll try some more varieties as you listed.

Btw, in your pics of Pometia, the landscape is awesome! Is that your orchard?

where did you got the seeds from and what color is the fruit? Mine is the purple colored variety with hard shell

Your tree is very nice and healthy! I've expected my Pometia to be like that but unfortunately they've been sick.
Besides, I got seeds from Han Sen (Malaysia same as you). It is also purple, hard-shell variety.

well it seemed to grow on any soil here as long as it is not waterlogged

Thanks Arvind, I narrowed down to disease and suspected that my Pometia has been infected by "Colletotrichum gloeosporioides", "Cephaleures virescens".
I'll use some organic curers and post result for anyone that may meet similar issue.

I'm interested Raul!
This is very dangerous and it's great that you already have a plan. I've rarely been in such trips but in any situations, play it safe.

Jabuticaba "sapucaia" (grafted) in a pot. Just for the sake of her beauty.
It will take years before to bloom...

Very nice and will be worth the long waiting!

Thanks Arvind!
Your climate is very similar to mine. Maybe some disease or ph and soil type took part in this.

Thanks Arvind for the input! All of my Pometias have been blackening that way and eventually died.

May I ask what is your annual temperature and soil's ph?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Can cherimoya grow in Vietnam?
« on: September 17, 2017, 04:32:37 AM »
Yes, for sure. But you need higher elevations. Starting points somewhere 600-700 meters  in tropics far from equator and roughly 1200 meters close to equator like Southern Vietnam. I've been having local Sri Lankan cherimoyas this entire past week even though we are clearly deep in tropics. Main production areas here at 2000 meters. Roughly 6000 feet elevation.

I wan to try to grow cherimoya in Ho Chi Minh city in a rural area call cu chi.  Please let me know if there are certain variety that can tolerate heat and rainy season.
No there is not. Try growing atemoyas instead. They are tropical.

Agreed Cu Chi is too hot for cherimoyas. Atemoyas will suit better.

If you still prefer cherimoyas and want commercial crops, greenhouses with proper air conditioning will probably work but it is not worth it as the price will be very high.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Pometia pinnata help!
« on: September 17, 2017, 04:25:46 AM »
Hello,

My Pometia pinnata seedling leaves eventually turn black, twisted. Some leaves have black spots. I've tried using:

+ Calcium carbonate
+ Organic fertilizer which contains N, P, K, Ca, Mg

None of the above works. I'm not sure if that is because of lacking some nutrient or being sun burnt though I put it in full shade. Anyone has the same issue?

I´m from Brasil.
The site is really under (re)construction.
You will have to wait, or you can contact Adhemar Gomes da Silva (the owner) via Facebook. ;)

Thanks Cassio! I thought I was blocked!
I also tried contacting Adhemar Gomes da Silva several times via email but got no reply so far. Hope his site will soon finish being re-constructed.

Hi Raul
This is you post
Frutasraras.com reports Plinia Grandiflora is also available, Plinia G. Is US$3.2 - Médium to large fruit. Super sweet. If someone wants to add seeds of this one to any order still on time...

Abimael, Raul are you able to access the website?
I always see the message "Under construction" when visiting "frutasraras.com". Looks like they block access from some countries.

Brazil > France > Vietnam

That is correct Guilherme!
Mine took around 20 days which is enough for a good germinating rate. My "Juçara Palm" purchased from Guilherme has been germinating up to 80% so far.

223
Got Peach Palm from Mira (nimfasnursery) today. The seeds look good with enough moist although transit time was very long.
