I ordered a tree from Calf and it came in at just 2 foot. Someone had plugged or topped the tree at 2 foot. I need a 1/4 wide fat scion so I can graft the center branch again.
Anyone know who might have one to spare or sell?

Thanks for the help.

Does anyone know how tall I should allow my Pinkerton avocado tree to get before I top or pug it to stay small and bushy? My tree is about 4 1/2 foot tall now, with what looks like a lot of branch buds on the truck wanting to push out above the branches around the 2 1/2 height Mark.

Or should I leave it alone, and let it just keep growing upward?

Thanks, Joe.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Need some advise on a mango tree
« on: March 07, 2015, 09:58:36 AM »
For some of you, you have had the opportunity to try some of the new mango trees. Juicy Peach, Pineapple Pleasure, Sweet Tart, Coconut cream, and Pina Colada mango.
What I would like to know from you all is any of these mango trees able to be kept small? I would like to be able to keep it at around 6 to 7 foot tall at max incase it gets cold so I can cover it. Do some of these mangos really taste like coconut? I like a mango that is sweet but has that tang of citrus.
I look forward to your recommendations, Thanks Guy's.

« on: July 19, 2013, 01:04:16 PM »
I'm trying to find a greenhouse that I can put up when we have our cold snaps. Someone here on the forum posted a nice greenhouse here some time back.
Yes, I used the search engine and could not find the thread. I believe it was 12x20x10or12 and a light green color. and I believe it was only about 200.00 or 300.00 dollars.

Thanks, for the help ahead of time.

Has anyone tried a Joey Avocado or grown one here in Florida. They are said to be a really good eating avocado, and can take the cold real well.
I'm looking to plant another avocado for the fall season, August-November and want one of excellent eating, and can handle the Cold 24F.

I have a LuLa avocado plant right now.

Any suggestions?  Thanks, Joe.

I have a Tory-Bilt 25gal tank sprayer that I'm going to sell. Model#15030. I'm not growing mango's at the house anymore. All the trees are being grown on Merritt Island at the grove and we have a 500 gallon tank sprayer we use over there.

I had a small grove 1 1/2 acre and trees as high as 30ft and the sprayer worked great!!! I sprayed anything from Copper, to Kaptan45 and the mixer keeped it mixed great while doing the whole grove.

It's in excellent shape and would like to sell it to somone here in Florida that could put it to good use.

Harry, This sprayer would be great for you!

If anyone is interested, I'll have my daughter post some pictures tomorrow.

Thanks, Joe.

I need some help on Mango tree’s that you can grow in pots. I have been for years giving seminars on growing mangos in the yard or grove, but now would like to teach about the varieties that can be grown in pots and indoors.

I would like to know what pots you guys use, or seem to work best and what size.

Type of potting mix that works best.

Type of fertilizers that work good, and how much and how often.

How often do you water?

And anything else like pruning and a spraying program for them.

Thanks for your help.

About two weeks ago I Cleft grafted and Veneer grafted a Jacqueline mango tree into a Baileys Marvel tree.
I'm starting to see signs of the buds starting to push thru the Parafilm. When should I remove the parafilm and the grafting tape from the new grafts.

It also looks like I had better luck with the Cleft grafts then the Veneer grafts, or do the Veneer grafts take longer to take.

Thanks Jeff and everyone else for the help in telling me how to graft a old tree. I'll see if I can get some pictures of the takes.

Joe.
