FLA Avocado identity needed
« on: November 08, 2012, 08:09:21 PM »
A few days ago a friend from work gave me a few local avocados that were incredible. Great taste, maybe one of the best Florida avocados that I have tasted in a long time. I am a big Choquette fan but this one is even better.  The seed is rather large but that's OK. Anybody have any idea which cultivar this might be?   It possibly could be a seedling too.

Might be a random no-name seedling avocado, unless it's a Marcus. The Marcus or the Tower 2 seems to be the closest match in the pine island avocado variety viewer.

With a seed that size it would have to be a seedling. But as long as it tastes good - thats all that matters.

Definitely not a Marcus.  Shape is wring, size is wring and Marcus have slight "ribbibg" like a pumpkin on the outside.

With that being said, i am also gonna go with a seedling.

Although it doesn't look like Lula, Lula does have a huge seed like that one and better flavor than Choquette.

Not only is shape wayboff for Lula butbflesh color is wayboff too.  I have seen a supposed Lula seedling tree and the shape of the fruit was similar to Lula however it did not contain the exterior skin texture of Lula.

Looks like a Waldin or Waldin seedling. They hang in the tree to November so they are in time. The seed is larger but I have noticed this year a lot of large seeds in my Catalinas.  Waldins are not know for their taste. Its more of the ideal root stock. It is actually exported to other countries now to use as root stock for Hass in places where well water is high in sodium.  Save the seed.
