ISO: Phyla scaberrima, AKA Lippia dulcis
« on: May 07, 2017, 06:33:33 PM »
This plant is favored for the intensely sweet leaves which can be chewed or made into tea.
We grow Lippia alba and possibly L graveolens. Seems like a useful family, and verbena grow very easy here.

Had Lippia dulcis growing here many years ago. Grew like a weed. Tasted good but heard that you should not use it in any large quantity due to negative camphor in it.

I ate it without a problem, and didn't notice any camphor taste. I believe you would have to consume quantities on a regular basis to be a problem, not the occasional nibble.

Maybe as an essential oil especially. I wonder about triggering seizures and the prevention there of, by understanding things like camphor. Idk much yet!
