one time, our grapes were about ready to pick. So we decided to pick them on the weekend as we were busy during the week. Comes Saturday, the grapes were completely gone, about 2-3 buckets.  It was as though they were eavesdropping on us and beat us to it. I think they have an extended family to raid the grape vines.  Grandpa and ma, papa and mama, auntie and uncles, and little ones too all work together.

put chicken wires over your pot. Or if you have thorny stuffs like blackberries vine dried up and dead branches from finger lime tree, i always save it up and put it on the top of the pot.  Trust me, this works 100% , they won't dig the pot anymore.

Hey Simon
I've also been experimenting and observing rootstocks for a decade here in socal and I think yr conclusion is way off. You are comparing Leo's seedlings to Florida's turpentine grafted trees. If you were really listening to Leo he would be the first to tell you turpentine rootstock is the best for our climate and if you take the time to study,  the largest commercial mango orchard in the USA, in the Coachella Valley, you would learn that their Keitt mangos are thriving on turpentine rootstock.....if you don't believe me they are on turpentine ask Har he was working for Zill in the late 80's when they fill the order for Mr. Marguleas of Sun World. I agree that perhaps folks, from socal, in the forum kill their Florida turpies for being inexperience and not having the proper microclimate for mangos to thrive. There is also other factor like transportation and transplant shock to consider. The fact is Simon, grafted trees on manila type rootstock droop as much as turpentine. The only advantage we have with the manila type rootstock is that they are more vigorous but in the long run they have the same issues with gummosis and phopmosis(root rot). I would suggest you reach out to gary matsuoka owner of laguna hills nursery he's been growing mangos in coastal orange county for years and hes an expert on California rootstook. As my mentor Eunice Messner use to tell me" Frank, mangos are doable in Socal but it's not easy" and she grew mangos in Anaheim Hills for over 40 years until her death.

I grafted on to Homedepot manila rootstock and it die on my.  2nd home depot rootstock is not doing that great, very slow, maybe I grafted too many onto it.  3rd HD manila rootstock  is leggy, and some branches are dying. 4th HD manila rootstock has lemon zest graft on it, this is the best looking out of all the HD manila rootstock.
Bought about 30l Florida tree, some  died and some survive.  Lemon zest is the best looking and it's got a few fruits after 5yrs in outdoor weather unprotected. Mallika is going great and blooming like crazy. We're getting some atmospheric rain this week, not good for the flowers.
Still trying to figure out what is best for the mango to thrive up in northern CA Bay Area.

Maybe it's root bound as someone mentioned. I got a mail order from Thailand of a "green mango"(I think keosavy), it came without any soils, just a stick with some roots on it.  I planted it immediately and it grows very well.  This the best tasting mango for me.  I love green mango .  It's sweet, crunch, smells very good. I keep wanting more after eating it.

in moderation?  too much of anything is not good.
sugar or salt is ok, but too much is detrimental .  My cousin's teen  son was forced to eat a bowl of  salt+chili without anything, and died from it afterward.

Thai green mango(Keo-savy, I think) . The taste lingers in your mouth and you keep wanting more of it. I have not eaten any green mango that make feel that way before.  This will be 3rd year of the tree giving me fruit, and this each year, there is more and more fruit as the tree gets bigger.

this papaya fruit is staying in a horizontal position. It survive the winter outdoor.

Finished shipping the parafilm to those who reserved and made payment. Let me know if I missed anyone.

Olie is the one only I still have not shipped out.  Will ship it out along with mango scion when weather is good for grafting.  I was also able to fit all 6rolls into the usps standard envelop which helps keep shipping cost cheaper at $8.

I just looked up on Ebay for the same item, and its $60 !!!  not ship to CA either.  I am so happy that we did it and save us some $$$$.

you might want to look up varieties in Cambodia. Cambodia get two fruit season a year.
Also , it rains very hard in Cambodia too. They are hot and humid. might be similar to your weather.

I'm technically cheating because this is a vegetable rather than a tree, but 100% longevity spinach. Unlike every other vegetable or fruit tree, it grows year round in South Florida, it grows quickly, it spreads fast, and you can propagate just by throwing cuttings on the ground (as I've mistakenly learned thinking I was composting and instead was creating a new patch of the stuff). It's extremely healthy (probably more so than kale). We use it in salads, smoothies, and sauteed. In a world-ending apocalypse, this is the only crop I could consistently eat/subsist on year-round. I can't recommend enough that veggie growers in South Florida grow this - it's crazy that when you search for veggies for our climate, it rarely comes up.

Now if we're just talking about a hypothetical normal world and enough space to grow only one tree, no doubt it would be some variety of mango.

what is longevity spinach? Is that tree spinach? I thought tree spinach , it needs to be cooked.

When I was 10yrs old, I drew a picture of a tree for my art subject .

The tree has all sort of fruits growing fruit on it:  banana, pineapple, orange, apple,cherry,etc..

mango.

1. you can graft different variety of flavors onto it.
2. you can eat it when fruit is green or ripe, lots of versatility.
you can pick it, you can eat it with slat and chili, you can make it into dessert like sweet rice mango, mango Sala. or it it ripen as is.

Sunny,
does it have slight coconut flavor and aromatic?

42
Keo Chen - cambodian mango
Keo Chen or Keo Ktis is the most flavor with yellow-orange pigmentation, great taste of flesh, sweetest and aromatic. It is suited growing in many area of the country located along the Tonle Sap and Mekong river. However, the tastes are a bit different from one to another by soil condition of the area. Unlike other mango tree, Keo Chen bears less fruit and yield could decrease in case of the plantation lack of maintenance. That’s the reason which Keo Chen fruit is the most expensive, its price commonly increase from 10 to 20 dollars per dozen.

Cambodia love eating green crunchy mangos. We actually prefer it green than ripen mango.

I don't know these varieties.

Sunny-
can you help ship keochen to me?

the rain has ruined my lemon zest flowers.  they are turning brown for the lemon zests. Others seems to be doing well, especially mallika,  very resistant to disease.

anyone else got Kadsura coccinea to fruit already from seed?  would love to get some advice as to weather how cold tolerant this plant is.

progress of mine started from seeds.

I like to give a big thanks to tqnguyen and all his members for the huge 80boxes order.   And other members here as well.

I used it a few days ago and I love it. It is so much better than .5in roll that I ordered off Ebay a few weeks ago.  It does not break easily like the .5inches.
Also, each of the rolls are packaged in shrink-wrap.  I ordered a box a few years ago of the same kind from ebay/amazon , and I don't remember that each of the roll was shrink-wrapped.  Anyway , just to let people know that each roll comes shrink-wrapped , if they are not , then someone has tampered with it.

I tried fitting all 6rolls into a small usps box, most I can fit is 4rolls with some difficulties.  I'm contacting people to let them know about new shipping cost. sorry about the miscalculations.
