Unfortunately, not all folks are local and these days if you have to drive 20 miles to get the tape, it costs you $8 just in gas. food for thought.

I just bought my grafting knife from them actually.  Initial purchase invoice did show $12.52 shipping, but once order was processed, they changed shipping cost to $6.34 and refunded the difference to my PayPal within 5days.  It could be that they're over estimating for larger shipment, but it's adjusted accordingly.

Those selling commercially I believe have discounted rates. I sell stuff on Amazon and its much cheaper to ship from Amazon stamps.com, than ship as a retail consumer. so total for you would be $46 for two rolls

I can't take credit here!

The real deal knowledgeable, and skillful grafter who turned me on to this amazing product, was none other than, Ed Self.

If he says something, u better open up your ears...He's a no b.s. guy, who know the ins and the outs, and the outs and the ins of this tropical fruit stuff!

He gave me a roll of "buddy tape", that was getting down to the last 1/3 of tape...He said give it a try, its the frickin best ever...so I reluctantly started to fiddle with this (according to Ed, very expensive) and unusual tape, with strange properties, making it seem not akin to the conventional paraflim I'd been using for years.

The tape little by little, started showing me signs of superiority to parafilm...having excellent properties of strength, elasticity, and biodegradability, that turned out to be key factors for successful grafts of difficult species (and of course easy species as well)

I'm hooked now! and use my parafilm only as a back up...but one thing I cant give up, is the firm grafting tape, that is about 1/3 inch wide, clear, slightly elastic, but can be pulled tight as heck!  This is my saving grace for poor cambium contact, due to crappy cuts, or improper cambium alignment or size compatibility.

Thanks for getting us on the bandwagon Behl!  and finding a cheap source, and making this all a reality!  i was turned off by Ed telling me that he paid like $40 per roll...so I intended to keep begging him for his left overs!

I really would like to hear some more positive feedback from this new batch of grafters who are ordering this go round...

Adam, on my grafts, I am using the green nurcery tie ribbon, I am wrapping it tightly at the union without making a knot, then I wrap buddy tape over it. As union pushes, the green nurcery ribbon has properties to stretch a bit. I am keeping an eye on it everyday to prevent girdling. Parafilm has disappointed me in a way that it ruined a lot of my rose grafts and other T-bud grafts as the POS cracked open and the bud dried out. I tried parafilm stretched and unstretched, same results for me. and this one is parafilm M I got from Amazon. I am happy with Buddy Tape, at least now I can blame myself if graft fails.

I hate to disagree with my buddies, but Behl...I must say, timing is very important...but not of paramount importance.

The most critical factors in achieving a successful union between plants being spliced, include the following (in my opinion):

1 maintaining proper conditions for scion to stay alive (moist/green/viable)...this is where the debate comes into play!  For what I do, wrapping the scion in "genuine buddy tape", is the best way to achieve consistent and healthy conditions for your scions, pre-grafting (wrapping scions for shipping or transporting, after being harvested), and post grafting (the typical method employed, of wrapping the entire scion, and waiting for new growth to emerge).

2. cambium to cambium contact
3. cleanliness
4. compatibility of scion and rootstock
5. Health of scion and rootstock


If the timing of the graft is off, (at least near me in FL, with tropical fruits) you can still produce successful and viable grafted plants...they just take more time to become established...due to poor timing....

but if the opportunity to obtain scions is a rare occurrence, and the option to obtain "properly timed" budwood is not going to be feasible, then by all means, go ahead and graft what you have, when you have it...and make the conditions as conducive for success as you possibly can!

The grafts will still take!

But if you have perfectly timed scions, with unsanitary blades (infested with plant pathogens), and/or horrible cambium alignment when grafting....then I think you are setting yourself up for failure.


So I guess the moral of the story is, sometimes it's best to graft when you can, if you must!  Don't wait for what the book says, or even your friend with experience....give it a shot, and you may teach the plant something it didn't know!

It does come in one continuous reel but then we will need 8 folks wanting same thing. I am so glad thay it comes in a strop form roll. I have to cut parafilm to use.
