Variegated pineapple has fruited
« on: August 02, 2017, 08:42:46 PM »
A couple of years ago, Adam sold me a few white stripes pineapple plants.  The first one has finally fruited.  Will cut open and taste tommorow.

Ok so I couldn't resist cutting it open tonight.

Texture similar to white fleshed pineapple like Kona Sugarloaf.  Somewhat bland, watered down flavor.  Some sweetness, some acidity.

Basically like a watered down version of Sugarloaf.  This pineapple was grown in an area near where I successfully fruited a white Jade which turned out much sweeter.

Not sure if this is typical or perhaps the irrigation system gave this plant too much water :)

Overall, this ones looks were more impressive than it's taste.

Update: my wife just tasted it and she spit it out and said "yuck.  It's tart."

How were the plants fertilized? Is it possible they did not get enough nutrients, and that is why they are not sweet?
