How long do you guys think this Jabo will take to fruit?  Purchased already when it was this size 45 gallon pot.

Really tough to say. Did you have to take a mortgage out on one that size?

What variety is it and where did you get it? I paid 375 for a 45 gallon that was planted in ground in 2015 (unknown variety, seems similar to Sabara). Was a bit bigger than yours. It started fruiting soon thereafter and does so every year, usually a couple of times.

Seems like it should be ready or close to fruiting size for many varieties.

Yea they told me its sabara “I think, my memory sucks” they also had red hybrids said those would fruit faster.

They refered to it as the regular purple one. Was like 320-375 if I recall.

Got it at Al’s fruit trees. great place lots of variety and didn’t have to drive that far. Before I knew bout his place I was driving to Excalibur.

Got my red jabo 25 gallon there and it started fruiting after 6 months in ground. Nice place down there.

That’s about the size of my fruiting Sabara. I got it to fruit by girdling a few branches with paperclips.

Well, my jabo is three feet tall, in a 20" pot, and is fruiting.
Not enough at any one time for jam yet, but still fun to suck on as I work in the greenhouse...

nice!  interesting how they fruit near branch tips in low light, or maybe due to higher latitudes

I have a similar sized one in a 36" box that's fruiting like crazy. Maybe give it a "haircut"? My tree responded well after a good pruning.

Yea I had already pruned it a bit didn’t want to go to crazy before planting in ground. Don’t have the best before picture but this is it before pruning.

Hmmm, I just figured it was because it was young.  Maybe I will put it in a sunnier spot, and see if the trunk fruits more (it only had 3 fruits on the trunk).  I wonder how to test the latitude thing. Days are quite long now.  I guess if it fruits on the trunk as the days get shorter, that is my answer...
