Many thanks for the explaination everyone, i really appreciate it.

Berto, was it mentioned if the potting mix used was acidic or just a standard mix? I'm very curious as i've read that jabos can be quite successfully grown in pure peat moss.  I am hoping to buy a smallish tree in the near future and pot it up as a houseplant and was thinking of using just peat moss.

Oscar - if all the different varieties of jaboticaba were available to me i would be crazy enough to try and have one of each (in pots).  Sadly though, i have to make do with M. cauliflora for the time being.  One can only hope i guess...

Kimi,
The video does not mentioned only 12 species of jabuticabas.  The guy stated that there are tens (dezenas) or maybe hundreds  (centenas) of differents types of jabuticaba native to the southeast Brazil, in the Mata Atlantica area.  For those of you that speak Spanish, "dezena" in Portuguese means (ten) and not a dozen which in Spanish is 'docena".  The guy does not mention anything about putting something acidic into the pot.  Maybe a brazilian portuguese language expert can help us with this subject... ;D ;D ;D ahahahahahahahaah Just I joke! Brazilians tend to have a good sense of humor!
The only jabuticaba, the guy recommends for an apartment patio, is the hybrid.   He dismisses the sabara variety as a pattio variety, and puts it under the table. But, he recommends it if you have room to plant it in a yard.

Besides jabuticaba hibrida (hybrid), I would recommend jabuticaba spiritosantensis or jabuticaba Grimal for an apartment patio.  It it a very precocious variety and may be kept at a small size.

Berto, how long did your jaboticaba spirito-santensis take to fruit from seed? Is it as fast as the hybrid?

My spiritosantensis fruited at approximately 4 feet tall. I believe that the hybrid fruits a bit faster.  I have seen hybrids fruiting at 3 feet tall.
