Chinese red Guava/Ugni (Crataegus pinnatifida)
« on: December 14, 2018, 04:15:22 PM »
Today, I found a strange fruit at supermarket. It was labeled as Chinese red Guava but it doesn't look like guava at all. It could be ugni species, maybe.

I tried one fruit and it tasted like strawberry apple, with only 3 seeds in the center.

I will post a picture.... soon

It’s tart and slightly sweet, soft with many seeds inside. Not a lot of flesh. not worth growing IMO

The taste is acceptable/good in my opinion. As for home growers, it is not really worth the space  :-[ .

Lychee and Waxberry are certainly better option, if you can grow them (i'm talking about Chinese fruits). Especially Waxberry it was quite a surprise, a very nice fruit to have.
